  1. Did I receive your Argumentative Paper? Prepare your warm up paper…the questions are on the next slide DEAR Mathematical Monday!

  2. Use the Distributive Property and factoring to help you solve the following problems… Warm Up- 1] Distribute and simplify: 5(x – 3 + 4) 5x-15+20= 5x+5 2] Distribute and simplify: ½ [-4 +(-14)] -2 + -7 = -9 3] Factor and simplify: 18m – 21m m(18 – 21)= -3m 4] Factor: 2xy + wy y(2x + w) 5] Write the expanded form: y(x – w) yx - yw

  3. Can walking be MATHEMATICAL?? Watch this and see what you think… (Start @1:30) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afpc_EcohcY

  4. F i n i s h S t a r t

  5. ALL of you will complete WORKBOOK p.83 in your groups for class work today while you wait to start Problem 1.1 When you are done, turn it in to the tray (staple all members together) and then begin Problem 1.1 using your data and lab sheet You will time your walking rates in the hallwhen I call for your group. You will record your information and use it to solve today’s Problem1.1 GATHERING YOUR DATA…

  6. 10 meters ÷ by your time = meters per second This is called your “walking rate” (in m/sec)

  7. ONE METHOD… 500 meters divided by your meters per second = time taken to walk 500 meters ANOTHER METHOD: 10 m = 500 m Your timex seconds

  8. 30 x walking rate = distance 10 minutes x 60 seconds/minute = 600 seconds 600 seconds x walking rate = distance 60 minutes/hour x 60 seconds/minute = 3600 seconds 3600 x walking rate = distance

  9. I’d multiply my walking rate times the number of seconds to calculate how far I would walk.

  10. d= rt d= distance (how far) r = rate (how fast) t = time (how long) How far you can go depends on how fast you are going and for how long.

  11. What did you get? d = rt d = distance (how far) r = rate (how fast) t = time (how long)

  12. MSA: Investigation 1 ACE 1, 2, 15-18 And finish Problem 1.1 if you did not in class  HOMEWORK
