  1. WP4 – EPBD Implementation Solar Keymark II 3rd plenary meeting

  2. OBJECTIVE The key objective of WP4 is to assist the national implementations of the EPBD with respect to thermal solar energy for both new and existing residential buildings

  3. Description of work - 1 • 2 Tasks: • Task 1 :New buildings •  Assist national EPBD-implementation groups for implementing prEN 15316-2.2.3 in Member States building codes. Monitor their achievements. •  Develop feasibility analysis instruments which offer insight into possible energy saving options using solar thermal systems in small and large buildings.

  4. Description of work - 2 • Task 2 :Existing buildings •  Adapt energy performance calculation methods in order to include explicitly the consumption of renewable energies in the requirements of the energy performance certificates. •  Prepare guidelines/material to assist Member States in the education of HVAC experts and installers in order to make these people recommend solar thermal.

  5. prEN 15316-2.2.3 Status Heating systems in buildings - Method for calculation of system energy requirements and system efficiencies – Part 2.2.3: Heat generation systems, thermal solar systems • Public enquiry ended in March 2006. • 16 positive votes - 2 abstentions – 1 negative vote (SW) • A revised version has been drafted and circulated amongst partners in October 2006 • Translation into German and French started but is not finished • Final version for Formal Vote expected by March 2007 Implementation in national building codes or regulation of this European standard has not started.

  6. Feasibility analysis instruments – 1 Status A software has been developed in order to assess the benefit of energy saving options using solar thermal systems in small and large buildings. This tool is fully compatible with prEN 15316-2.2.3

  7. Feasibility analysis instruments – 2 Future plans • Test the software: All • Prepare 2 case studies to validate the software: DHWS ( Demokritos) – Combisystem (ITW) • Complete databases (climatic files, collector parameters): All • Develop a revised version of the software and test it: CSTB

  8. Energy performance certificates – 1 Status For existing buildings, energy performance certificates are made of: 1) Energy label of buildings A survey has been carried out showing that in most EU countries no official method exists 2) Recommended measures for improvement The software can be used for this purpose

Energy performance certificates – 2 Future plans • Key issue to be solved out: • 1 european calculation method for predicting the thermal performance of solar thermal systems but …many european energy performance calculation methods! • 2 options: • Include prEN 15316-2.2.3 into energy performance calculation methods developed by EU projects EPA –ED and EPA-NR  Good idea … but these methods are not used! • Include prEN 15316-2.2.3 into energy performance calculation methods developed in one specific country (France for instance)

  10. Prepare guidelines/material Future plans • List already existing material, especially guidelines for decision makers (eng, archi, experts) : All • Select best ones and uniformize layout (short summary translated into english): Demokritos • Package the software: CSTB
