  2. Goal Directed Leadership Learning Objectives: Develop an understanding of the Goal Directed Leadership method and process Develop an understanding of how the Goal Directed Leadership method fits into the Troop leadership development continuum

  3. Goal Directed Leadership Learning Objectives: Develop an understanding of how to put the Goal Directed Leadership method into practice at the Troop level

  4. Goal Directed Leadership What is it? An application of an existing facet of the Boy Scouting program A way for Scoutmasters to build on the principles of the leadership introduced in the Troop-level Leadership Training program

  5. Goal Directed Leadership What is it? A strategy for creating a leadership environment in which the roles and duties of Troop and Patrol level leaders are clearly defined and understood A strategy for building high functioning teams at the Troop and Patrol level

  6. Goal Directed Leadership What is it? A method of guiding peer-level leaders in the process of setting goals, and providing the coaching and mentoring needed to support peer-level leaders in meeting their personal and team goals

  7. Goal Directed Leadership How does it work? Built on the Patrol method Places the focus of achieving goals on the Patrol Leaders Patrol Leaders are guided and supported by the Senior Patrol Leader and the Patrol Leader’s Council

  8. Goal Directed Leadership What is the Goal? To have every Patrol achieve National Honor Patrol status within a period of time determined by the PLC usually within one Scouting calendar year

  9. Goal Directed Leadership Where do you start? The Troop is using the Patrol method and has a functional PLC The Scoutmaster should ensure the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) program is conducted at the Troop level at least twice yearly

  10. Goal Directed Leadership The Foundation Skills Each Leader should be familiar with the following Leadership tools: The Stop Start Continue method The SMART Goal method The Teaching EDGE

  11. Goal Directed Leadership The Framework Each Leader will be introduced to the following Leadership concepts: The Core Purposes of a Leader The Key Functional Areas within the Role of a Leader The Eight Goal Areas of the National Honor Patrol Award

  12. Goal Directed Leadership The Process Each Leader will: Develop an individual PersonalLeadership Growth Agreement which will serve as his individual Leadership Goal “Scorecard”

  13. Goal Directed Leadership The Process Each Leader will: Participate in Coaching/Counseling sessions with the Scoutmaster or ASM to regularly evaluate progress toward meeting their goals

  42. Goal Directed Leadership Putting the Method into Practice: begin with presenting the National Honor Patrol Goal tracking sheet to the SPL, and state your support in pursuit of the goal have the SPL present it to the PLC for discussion
