The Role of a High School Counselor At the very MINIMUM, counselors at the high school level are responsible for ensuring that every student takes the classes required for high school graduation. We also offer parent/teacher consultation, brief individual student counseling (academic and personal/social), classroom guidance, college planning support, and collaboration with educational stakeholders to work for the benefit of each and every student in our school.

  5. Getting to Know FCHS Freshmen • Classroom Guidance: Week of September 21, 2015 • Bridge Bill: Students will add 3 additional occupations to their portfolio

Requesting a Meeting with the Counselor • Our goal is to be ACCESSIBLE to our students and their families. • Students can request to meet with their counselor by filling out a green request form in the front of the Counseling Office and giving it to Mrs. Alexander, Counseling Secretary. • The counselor will meet with the student at his or her earliest convenience. • If the student has an URGENT NEED that must be addressed ASAP, let Mrs. Alexander know. • Please allow 24 hours for the counselor to return your voicemail or email.

  7. Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2019 • 23 total credits • 4 English credits • 4 Math credits • 4 Science credits • 3 Social Studies credits • 3 CTAE, Foreign Language*, or Fine Arts credits • 4 additional Elective credits • 1 Health/Personal Fitness credit * Four-year colleges require a minimum of two years in the same Foreign Language

  8. Scheduling and Course Selection Process • The course selection process for the 2016-2017 school year will take place during Spring 2016 • Teachers in core subject areas will make recommendations for the following year • Students may waive into another level class with an approved class waiver form • Students select their electives and alternate choices via Parent Portal at home • Don’t panic!

  14. End of Course Testing End of course tests (EOCTs) will be given for the following classes and will count for 20% of the student’s final grade.

Social Networking • 82% of teens between 14 – 17 are on Social Networking Sites • The average user of Facebook has 130 friends • Areas of Concern • Know your students’ log in and password • 69% percent of students 13 – 17 have included their physical location • Careful of who you accept as a friend • Be selective of material that you post • Colleges Admissions teams report to searching out applicants on social networking sites.
