  1. Mrs. Moody Name Science Per. Date How to Measure VOLUME Volume can be measured 3 different ways… 1. With a ruler: length x width x height In metrics it’s unit is meters cubed or m3. 2. With a graduated cylinder: liquids are measured in milliliters and liters. (Measure at eye level!) 3. Using the displacement method for weird shaped objects.   2. MASS In metrics Mass is measured in grams or kilograms using a triple beam balance or an electronic scale. Mass is the amount of matter in an object. It is not the same as weight! AREA Area is the length of an object x height. In the metric system it’s unit is meters squared or m2. It is a 2 dimensional measurement. LENGTH Length is measured in meters, centimeters, and millimeters using a ruler or other measuring tool. Odd shapes can be measured with a piece of string, then measure the length of the string. TEMPERATURE Temperature is measured in degrees Fahrenheit and Centigrade using a thermometer.
