  4. Illustrative Advertisements: • What is the purpose of most advertisements? • What rhetoric do they most often employ to appeal to their audiences? • RFW, pg. 73

  5. Group Work • In small groups of three or four, share the three advertisements you brought with you. What is each one attempting to sell? Who is the audience? What is the message? Which form of rhetoric is most evident? • Use guidelines in RFW, pg. 83 “guidelines for analyzing a visual text”

  6. Essay #1 • Choose a print advertisement and two of the assigned readings • Briefly explain what the advertisement is selling and to whom, but focus most of your paper on how the advertisement sells its product to that target audience. What strategies does it use to convey its message? • identify and analyze four“features” of the advertisement
