  1. Term Paper guidelines • Presentations start from 27 Nov. • Papers to be handed in much before presentations. • Thematic presentations. • A review of a book on natural resources (Anupam Mishra, any in course web etc), review of a project or programme (Riverlinking, sethusamudram, Polavaram, worlp) or organisations (Agragamee, WOTR, FES, WASSAN, DSC), natural resources issues in a particular state (Bihar (BMA), Jharkand, Chattisgarh, Uttaranchal, Orissa etc). • Technical projects on rainwaterharvesting in campus • themes insufficiently covered – tank irrigation, water conflicts, groundwater resources,integrated water resource management, privatization of water, joint forest management, institutions in NRM, scaling up issues etc.

Term Paper guidelines • You could also work on an assigned topic from working papers of IRMA, EPW articles, Gatekeeper series etc. • You need to submit an abstract / workplan • The term paper should be between 1500 – 2000 words and you could use pictures, diagrams, maps etc to illustrate points or issues. • presentations in groups of two or more (to be intimated and approved) based on topics.

A few themes • Politics of natural resources • Scarcity and natural resources • Geographical history • Climate change and cultural theory • Watershed policy – either state wise or overall • Collective action in conserving NR • Land degradation • National environment policy • Groundwater recharge issues • waterharvesting

A few themes • Common property resources • Water conflicts – Ganga etc. • Groundwater markets • Credit institutions and NRM • Gender issues in NRM • Specific examples of NRM interventions and strategies – WOTR, MYRADA, BAIF, Sadguru, Swadhyaya etc. • Natural resource issues in new states (CJU) etc. flood management in Bihar. • NRM and livestock

  5. decide • Topic – what you would like to work on • Whether in teams of two or more • Joint work cannot be based on single articles • You can send a mail to shambu@ximb.ac.in to indicate any particular topic and a line on why • Deadline for decisions Thursday 21/11, else you will be assigned topics • Preference of a topic does not automatically qualify work on that, it needs to be approved. • You are free to choose non English material and also use the net freely acknowledging content.
