Analysis of Noise and Performance Issues in CMS Modules

Summary of findings from the US CMS meeting on 04/06/2004 regarding Module 7547's noise levels, tolerances, and performance issues. Details on observed noise patterns, responses to voltage, and calibration pulse variations in tested modules. Power cycling effects and CMN module anomalies discussed.

  1. Update on FNAL production exercise US CMS meeting 04/06/2004

  2. Module 7547 - I Cut strips Vpsp = 40 noise US CMS meeting 04/06/2004

  3. Module 7547 - II Grade B Vpsp = 36 US CMS meeting 04/06/2004

  4. Retested 6 modules with CMN Only one shows all features we’ve seen before: No noise at low applied voltage Noise shows up at 350V and increases with applied voltage 4 strips with very high noise CMN modules US CMS meeting 04/06/2004

  5. Other: No strips with high noise on the chip with CMN No dependence on applied voltage Low response to calibration pulse (1/2 of the normal PH) Pedestal “drifts” with time: goes up to 220 230 ADC then goes down to 0 and stays there Power cycling sets it to nonzero CMN modules ???
