Prepositions A preposition is a word which precedes a noun (or a pronoun) to show the noun’s relationship to another word in the sentence. The noun or pronoun that comes after the preposition is called the object of the preposition (OP).
List of common prepositions (You WILL be memorizing these. Never fear.)

Pre-writing • “pre” means… • This is a good way to get your brain warmed up and your writing fingers ready. • This is a simple trick of the trade that you can do whenever you are going to write…well, anything really!

Drafting time Expectations • Quietly working THE WHOLE TIME. • Questions will not be taken during the first 5 minutes of writing. • Pre-writing is an essential piece of any writing project- make sure you do it! • Writing isn’t scary when you have the right tools- and you have the right tools, smarty pants! • You may freely use the dictionaries that are in class. • Make sure your draft includes ALL of the items on the checklist and in the instructions. • Remember how awesome you are. This hard work will pay off in a big way by the end of the year!
