  1. PrimeHealthcareResidencyProgramsAwarded FundingbytheDepartmentofHealthCare AccessandInformation Prime Healthcare’s six residency programs in California received $5.75 million in grants that will increase medical education opportunities. The Prime West Consortium sponsors residency programs in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Psychiatric, Podiatric, and Dermatology.

  2. The Song-Brown Healthcare Workforce Training Act was established in 1973 to increase funding to support the education and training of healthcare professionals, with a particular focus on primary care providers. The program has funded the training of thousands of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals across the state. In particular, the Song-Brown awards attempt on focusing increasing the primary care residency slots in medically underserved areas and attracting underrepresented minorities from those communities. Research suggests physicians from medically underserved areas are more likely to care for underserved patients. Prime Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading health systems with 45 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient locations in 14 states, is committed to developing residency programs to address the physician shortage in California. Prime West was awarded the largest percentage of the Song-Brown Program Grant for expanding primary care, which will be used to further develop these residency programs.
