  3. Preservation of Minoan Culture • Invasions by Mycenaeans prevented Minoans from rebuilding their cities • Adopted pieces of Minoan culture into everyday lives • Value of seaborne trade • Writing system • Minoan legends helped form part of the Greek religion

  4. Trojan War • Begins approximately 1200 B.C. • 1189 B.C. the city of Troy falls • Greek city-states v. Troy • Causes: • According to legend, a Trojan youth, Paris, kidnapped Helen, the wife of Greek king, Agammenon

  5. Trojan War (cont’d) • Most likely the war was a raid against a rival city-state that controlled vital trade routes • The Trojan Horse according to most scholars would have been either a battering ram or a siege engine

  6. Trojan War (cont’d) • Heinrich Schleimann • Discoveries suggest that Troy was a real city and the events may have actually taken place • The Trojan War was previously believed to be only legend

  7. Dorians • Around 1200 B.C. move into Greece • Little is none of this 400 year period because no written records exist
