  2. Simile • “Love is like the sea, it leaves you on your knees”-Alicia Keys, Like the Sea • Alicia Keys is comparing love to the sea. That in the beginning, it’s all fun and games, but too much can overwhelm.

  3. Metaphor • “You’re my golden star”-Bruno Mars, Treasure • Bruno Mars is comparing this girl to a golden star because she’s bright and beautiful.

  4. Alliteration • “Best believe somebody’s paying the pied piper”-Eminem, Lose Yourself • The P’s in ‘paying the pied piper’, Eminem is saying somebody will end up paying for your mistakes in the end.

  5. Hyperbole • “I spring with the quickness, like lightning just appeared”-Will Smith, Fresh Prince of Bel Air (Theme song) • Will Smith is being overly dramatic, that’s just how much the driver scared him so he ran away.

  6. Onomatopoeia • “I got that boom, boom, pow”-Black Eyed Peas, Boom BoomPow • Fergie is saying she’s got that boom, boom, pow, but it’s more of a statement; it’s not really anything.

  7. Imagery • “I’m a survivor, I’m not gon’ give up. I’m not gon’ stop, I’m gon’ work harder”-Destiny’s Child, Survivor • Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams make it easy to picture that no matter what obstacles they face, they will overcome it all and be stronger than they were before.
