Mr. Darren Dressen, M.S. • Grew up in Minnesota, Mounds View High School • Brief minor league baseball career with KC Royals • B.S. in chemistry from small, liberal arts college in MN, St. John’s University • Worked as a chef • M.S. in chemistry from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor • Graduate work at North Dakota State University • Medicinal chemist for 16 years at Elan Pharmaceuticals (Over 40 patents and papers on Alzheimer’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis) • Teaching credential from Cal State East Bay • Student taught at James Logan High School last year • Working on my M.S. degree in Education at CSUEB presently About Your InstructorEducation

Mr. Darren Dressen About You InstructorPersonal • 3 children (Hunter (17) autistic in special education, Severine (19) studying nursing in Germany, Theresa (21) studying nutrition at UC Davis. • Wife (Caroline) is 5th grade teacher (Fremont) and professor of multimedia design at Ohlone Community College. • Spend a lot of time in Germany and France because my wife is citizen of those two countries. • Still play competitive baseball • Like to garden and cook the stuff I grow • Play Black Ops way too much

  4. About This Course Semester Final 20% …. Uugh!

  5. About This Course: Supplies Pencils (Chemistry is a pencil science) Pens (Blue or Black ink) Organized Binder (CIS has suggested sections) Textbook (We have a class set yeah!!!) Non-graphing scientific calculator

  6. When you come into class … -Pick up handouts -Get out your notes and writing implements -Start warm-up as soon as class starts -If you are tardy … sign into tardy log. Procedures

  7. If you missed class the day(s) before … 1) Check out class website for what you missed 2) Ask a friend for notes 3) Go to weekly agenda clipboard 4) Get handouts from little portable file 5) ….. Then ask Mr. Dressen Procedures

  8. Bathroom … -Sign Up On Back Board -Every minute you are gone you owe me 3 minutes at lunch (Room 210)* Procedures *Some people can’t do lunch so we will discuss when a better time is available

  9. A Typical Day (Not Lab Day) • Warm Up (1/2 sheet of paper) • Agenda for the Day • If Homework is Due (We will go over few problems before handing in or homework check) • -Class instruction will end with 5-7 min. to go • -At that time you will be asked some reflection • ?’s on the day (same 1/2 sheet of paper as the warm-up, on back) • -When bell rings … you will hand your ½ sheet of paper into me as an exit slip (participation grade)
