  16. Beliefs

  17. Beliefs • Every night all the Suruwaha’s (including the children) inhale drug called Kumadi, which is made from tree bark. • They believe that it opens the door to the spiritual world. • the Suruwaha's believe that children that are born with disabilities are evil spirits, and be killed in the cruelest way

  18. Death and human rights violations

  19. Euthanasia • The average life expectancy is thirty-five • Not because of the bad health, but because of the extremely bizarre euthanasia. The Suruwaha’s believe that children born with disabilities or born to a single mother are evil spirits. • They believe that they should be killed in the cruellest way possible. • They take these poor babies either out into the jungle to be eaten alive by the wild beasts or they bury them alive. • This is one of the worst human rights violations in the world.

  20. Suicide • Many of Suruwaha people commit suicide until the age of 35. • A common reason: They want to be reunited with their relatives in the afterlife. • The common way to commit suicide: to take a deadly poison made from a ground up root called Timbo.

  21. Question that we still didn’t figure out yet…………. • Even after 5 years since they were found, we still don’t know what to do with them: Should we let them live as they have for thousands of years? • Should we let them come out into our modern world?
