  1. SELF DEFENSE Unit 4

  2. Muggers Hold The attacker grabs the defender around the neck from the back. Steps to Release: First the defender must get their chin in the v of the attackers elbow to maintain and air passage for the defender. The defender should strike the attacker with an elbow jab to the abdomen, then put one hand on top of the attackers wrist and the other hand underneath the attackers elbow. The defender should push up on the attackers elbow and pull down on the attackers wrist as the defender walks backward under the attackers arm. The defender should then lock off the attackers arm to finish this release .

  3. Bear hug (Rear attack over arms) The attacker grabs the defender around the torso from the back • Steps to Release: • The defender shin scrapes and stomps the attacker, then grabs the attackers finger and pulls it forcefully sideways to open the attackers hands. • As soon as the hands are released the defender should roll sideways in the direction of the finger being pulled. • Finish the release with a side kick.

  4. Front Bear Hug The attacker grabs the defender around the torso with the ands pinned from the front. • Steps to Release: • The defender kicks the attacker, grabs the hips of the attacker and then drives his or her knee into the groin of the attacker.

  5. Front Hair Pull The attacker grabs the defender from the front by the hair. • Steps to Release: • The defender should immediately place both his/her hands on top of the attackers hand (this should relieve the pain of the hair pull) • The defender should kick the attacker then step underneath the attackers arm and lock the attackers arm off.

  6. Back Hair Pull • Steps to Release: • The defender should immediately place both his/her hands on top of the attackers hand. • The defender turns toward inside of the attacker and takes closest arm and goes over and around the attackers arm. • Once the defender has wrapped is/her arm around the attackers arm the defender should lift up on the attackers arm. • Finish the release with a heel strike to the face of the attacker. The attacker grabs the defender from the back by the hair.

  7. Full Nelson The attacker grabs the defender in a full nelson hold ( underneath arms and locked off in back of the defenders neck) Steps to release: The defender should immediately clasp both hands together and place them on his/her forehead with the palms of the hands facing away from the head. The action will prevent the attacker from breaking the defenders neck. The defender then must shin scrape foot stomp the attacker, after this distraction the defender takes one foot steps behind the attackers leg. Once the leg is behind the attacker use the same arm as the leg behind the attacker to push back against the attackers torso. This action should break the hold of the attacker and possibly put them on the ground.
