  1. Understanding Network Firewall Security Systems

  2. What is a Firewall?   A firewall can be described as a type of modern network security device that monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic and permits or blocks data packets based on a set of security rules.

  3. How does a Firewall Work?  A network firewall security system works by building a barrier between the business’s internal network and incoming traffic from external sources such as the internet. But this is done in a process. It first analyzes network traffic based on rules and then welcomes only those incoming connections that it has been configured to accept. It does this by allowing or blocking specific data packets based on pre-established security rules.  To put it in simple words, a firewall acts like a traffic guard at the computer’s entry point, or port and allows only trusted sources, or IP addresses, to enter inside. IP addresses are important as they help to identify a computer or source, just like a postal address helps in identifying location of an individual where he/she lives.

  4. Software Firewalls Software firewalls are very common. They can be easily installed within a computer and are provided by an operating system or network device manufacturer. These firewalls are customizable and offers a smaller level of control over functions. A software firewall is capable of protecting a system from standard control and access attempts, but can face troubles while dealing with sophisticated network breaches.

  5. Hardware Firewalls A hardware firewall is the second basic type of firewall system. It is deployed either as standalone product for corporate use, or more often, as a built-in component of a router or other networking device. These firewalls are also considered as an essential part of any traditional security system and network configuration. Typically, all types of hardware firewalls come with a minimum of four network ports that allow connections to multiple systems.

  6. Types of Firewalls Systems There are several types of network security firewallsystems present in the market nowadays, which help in preventing harmful information from being passed through the network. A business can implement any of these firewalls in its organization, depending upon the size of the network and the level of security required. Here, we’ve listed some of major types of firewalls systems- • Next-generation firewalls • Application-layer firewalls • Packet filtering firewalls • Circuit-level firewalls • Proxy server firewalls • Stateful multi-layer inspection firewalls
