Types of cylinders and their function • Single acting Cylinder-- a cylinder in which fluid dorce is applied to only one side of a piston to move the element in only one direction • Double acting Cyliner-- a cylinder in which fluid force can be applied to the movable element in either direction

  4. Kinds of cylinders • Telescoping Cylinder-- in forklifts-cranes • Double acting double end rod--rod on each end--provide force in both directions • Cushion Cylinder-- keeps item from coming to a hard stop--slowly releases fluid at one end • Stepped Cylinder--provides for a rapid start
