Continental Congress • Passed resolution to make certain Bibles in abundance • 1777 “the Bible is so universal, its importance so great…” • 1781 Congress commissioned the printing of Bibles in America “Whereupon, resolved, that the United States in Congress assembled … recommend this edition of the Bible to the inhabitants of the United States.”
