  3. Problem questions • Is it important to know foreign language in the 21st century? 2. What should a man of the 21st century be like?

The way we are going to work today • Divide into two groups. • Each group must choose a secretary for writing the main ideas of a group. • The other members of a group are the generators of ideas. • The members of a group offer different ideas. • Each group’s representatives must represent their ideas.

  5. Generate the ideas about What do you know about the history of languages? When did language appear? How many languages do people have? Do you know something about language integrity? Why languages die out? What dying out can cause?

  7. Legend about the Tower of Babel The Bible tells us about the Tower of Babel. According to it after the Flood people began to talk on one language. People wanted to build a huge tower in Babylon. It could become a symbol of human unity.

  8. Confusion of languages But God decided that people could do everything without his permission. He confused the languages for people couldn’t understand each other. People stopped to comprehend each other and dropped to build the Tower of Babel.

  9. When did language appear? Scientists think that language appeared more than 500 years ago. They don’t know how it could be. All languages on our planet are equal in their structure of complexity. There are no simple languages, because each language is best adapted for a particular nation.

  10. How many languages do people have? • There are 7000 languages on our planet. • Every two week one language disappears. • Scientists don’t know all languages which do exist on our planet.

  16. What can dying out cause? • Culture of a particular nation disappears, • Literature legacy – poems, legends etc. is lost forever. • Knowledge about nature and universe is lost.

  21. Polyglot – is derived from two Greek words, “poly” – many, “glotta” – language. It is a man who knows many languages, at least four. Hyper polyglot is a man who knows more than six languages. Do you know famous polyglots?

  27. A citizen of the 21st century should be QUICK and FIT in our QUICKLY moving world. A citizen of the 21st century should be STRONG and MUSCULAR to solve all problems of our century.

Ecological problems: global warming, air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, endangered animals, birds, insects, flowers, trees… The 21st century citizen should be CAREFUL because it is important to take CARE of our nature. Otherwise the 22nd century citizen will have no safe place to live in!
