    3. Measurement and disturbance In quantum mechanics, one of the fundamental principles is that any measurement which gives information about a quantum system must in general also disturb that system in some way. The canonical example of this is Heisenbergs Uncertainty principle: A measurement of x disturbs the value of p, and vice versa. We call variables with this relationship complementary.
