Course Corrections Process • You as teachers are in our courses most often and as Content Managers we would love your help to identify any course corrections that you see need to be done. • For example: • Incorrect test question or answers • Discussion prompt error • Textbook reading page errors • Expired link or video for material • In order to best keep this information organized the CM team has created the pushed out documents that will allow you to proceed with a course error. Please just fill out the document and email it to your Content Manager to process the change.

Student perspective How might a student feel if he or she worked diligently to complete the first assignment, and then saw that this was the only feedback provided? “Your paper is not long enough, and is not double spaced. You need to read the instructions and answer all parts of the question.”

  13. How can we improve our feedback?

  14. Revised example: Hi Suzy! I love the topic you have chosen for your paper! I do think you need to add more detail, though. Remember that your paper should be at least 500 words. Please see the rubric I have attached with more specific details. There is also a recorded lesson posted in our “Resources” tab that may help you. Don’t forget you can always stop by my office hours if you have questions! Your paper is not long enough, and is not double spaced. You need to read the instructions and answer all parts of the question.

Computer graded feedback / CR • What if all the assignments in my course are computer graded? • Set aside time each week to go through your grade center and provide feedback, either through the grade center or by email. • Encourage students who are doing well. Everyone appreciates a pat on the back! • Offer assistance to students who are struggling. If they failed a quiz, point them to a mini-lesson that might help. If they are failing overall, invite them to your office hours.

Discussion Board Feedback The most important thing to remember with discussion board feedback is that if you “reply” to a discussion thread, everyone in the class can see it! • It is perfectly acceptable for the teacher to reply to discussion boards, but this is not the place for correcting students. Instead… • Ask probing questions. • Keep the discussion going in small classes. • You do not need to reply to every post in a course that is quite active in the discussion board, but you do want to have a presence so the students know you are monitoring. • Remember, the key here is participation. You would not grade a discussion board posting as strictly as you would a written assignment. • Direct correction and comments on work can be done in feedback or via email/journal or kmail.

  17. Speaking Assignment Feedback These are oral assignments - try to give oral feedback as much as possible! If students are in Blackboard and using the Voice Boards, you can reply directly to their posts. If the Voice Board is set up correctly (see k12training.com), the other students will not be able to listen to your feedback. Courses with speaking portions will also have the instructions for using Audacity. If a student is using Audacity, they may send you a file with an .aup extension. You will not be able to listen to this. If you get an .aup file from a student, ask them to export the recording as an .mp3 or.wav file. Remain positive! Remember how you felt the first few times you had to talk into a computer and be supportive of your students’ efforts.
