  1. ESSNet SERV 2Implementing Shared SERVices THE CONTRACTOR ISACTING UNDER A FRAMEWORK CONTRACT CONCLUDED WITH THE COMMISSION Mauro Bruno

  2. Outline • Main objectives • Guiding principles • Work packages

  3. Main objectives (1/2) • The project is “shared SERVices ” is one of the implementation projects defined in the ESS Vision 2020 programme • This project defines and implements the necessary foundations for developing and sharing generic software solutions among National Statistical Institutes and other ESS authorities • The project will address governance aspects related to Statistical Services lifecycle

  4. Main objectives (2/2) • Sharing of such generic solutions could be done as statistical services either by replication of solutions in national statistical production processes or by exposing these as statistical services on a centralised ESS SOA platform • The project is aligned with the ESS Enterprise Architecture Reference Framework (ESS EARF) that will serve as reference framework for implementing the ESS Vision 2020

  5. Guiding principles • Be concrete and pragmatic: the main priority is to build services that actually work, even if they are not very sophisticated • Be complementary with other works: the partners wish to cooperate with all the relevant bodies and stakeholders • Be open: open-source services will be preferred. The ESSnet work will be conducted openly (for example on open collaborative platforms)

  6. Consortium • INSEE (leader) • ISTAT • Statistics Sweden (SCB) • Statistics Norway (SSB) • Statistics Portugal (INE)

  7. WP1: Develop new services • Develop and reuse 3 to 5 new services from the list established in the ESSnet SCFE and available on the CROS portal • Services can be developed either from scratch or from existing components or software (excluding services already existing in the CPSA Service Catalogue)

  8. WP2: Define integration and architecture guidelines • Study, explore and describe the different architecture possibilities for integrating services (e.g. orchestration, pub/sub, Point-to-Point, adapters, containers…) • Create recommendations that will cover a realistic example on how to move from a legacy architecture to a service oriented architecture

  9. WP3: Build a sandbox and test available services • To support the work in WP2 and to make some architecture validation tests a sandbox environment will be built and maintained • Available services from the catalogue or from WP1 will therefore be installed and tested • Containers will be advertised in the CSPA service catalogue in the corresponding service page

  10. WP4: Create and communicate success stories • Based on the work in other WP and gathering information from other NSIs member of the ESS, this WP will aim at building stories of successful use and reuse of CSPA services • The WP should present these stories and other results through different means in different existing fora of the ESS (e.g. working groups, task forces, workshops) or organise its own meeting(s)

  11. WP5: Communication and dissemination of results The ESSnet is requested to maintain the following monitoring, communication and dissemination activities: • Regular communication of the main activities and main results to other non-participating countries; • Regular involvement of other non-participating organisations within the European Statistical System with regard to the results achieved; this could be via conferences, bilateral assistance, the organisations of technical or other meetings or via other means; • Preparation of regular monitoring reports: these reports should contain all the results and deliverables achieved.
