The landscape of America’s classrooms is evolving, with a significant increase in the Latino population and diverse languages being spoken by students. According to recent statistics, nearly 30% of U.S. classrooms will be composed of Latino students by 2050. In Cobb County alone, ESOL enrollment has surged from 100 students in 1989 to over 8,000 today, representing more than 130 countries. It's critical that all students receive equitable education, as mandated by laws ensuring language support. Let's foster an inclusive environment that values every student's potential.

Why ESOL? All students legally and morally deserve an appropriate education.
It’s the Law! Lau v. Nichols (1974) • Unanimous Supreme Court decision • “sink or swim” instruction violates Civil Rights of language minority children • School districts required to provide specialized English instruction • “students who do not understand English are effectively foreclosed from any meaningful education”
The Law!! Plyer v. Doe (1982) “States are prohibited from denying a free public education to undocumented immigrant children regardless of their immigrant status.”
What can you do? Remember… a smile transcends all language barriers.
