What is Swine Flu? Swine Influenza is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses. Outbreaks of swine flu happen regularly in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen. Most commonly, human cases of swine flu happen in people who are around pigs but it’s possible for swine flu viruses to spread from person to person also.
symptoms of swine flu in people? The symptoms of swine flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and headaches. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. In the past, severe illness and deaths have been reported with swine flu infection in people.
Why is this important? Knowing about swine Flu can help prevent, the spread of this virus, and prevent deaths.
What is being done about it? The race is on to create a vaccine that can work safely, quickly and effectively. The Technical Committee on Pandemic Influenza has designated the Institute for Medical Research as the referral laboratory for swine flu. The Mexican government, has shut down the country by closing schools, restaurants, movie theaters, and cafes. Telling everyone but cops to stay home.
