  2. Overview • Work Study offers faculty and staff a minimum wage subsidy to hire enthusiastic and qualified students to help bring a variety of on-campus initiatives to life • Work Study funding is awarded through a competitive application and adjudication process

  3. Funding Allocations • Through the application process faculty and staff request the number of Work Study hours they require for their job proposal • The approved hours can be committed to as many student hires as is appropriate for a proposal, to a maximum of 300 hours per student

  4. Application Process • To apply for Work Study funding a job proposal must be submitted via CareerConnect by the posted deadline • The job proposal must clearly identify how the 5 Student Learning Components will be met

Student Learning Components • Develop and enhance student's personal and professional development • Offer an opportunity to develop workplace skills • Provide opportunities to explore potential career paths • Provide work experiences that complement academic and experiential learning • Evidence of ongoing support and mentorship

  6. Student Learning Components • Develop and enhance student's personal and professional development • What does personal development mean to you? How would that be achieved in this position? • What does professional development mean to you? How would that translate to a student? How would that be achieved in this position?

  7. Student Learning Components 2. Offer an opportunity to develop workplace skills • What workplace skills would be important in this position? • How would those workplace skills be highlighted? Trained for? Developed?

  8. Student Learning Components 3. Provide opportunities to explore potential career paths • Who is a part of your office and who would this student meet as a part of this position? • What does each of those folks do? • What opportunities would that highlight for the student?

  9. Student Learning Components 4. Provide work experiences that complement academic and experiential learning • In addition to SLC #2’s workplace skills, what kind of experiences would this student have in this position? • How would the experience from this position add to what the student is learning in the classroom? To what the student is learning through their university experience?

  10. Student Learning Components 5. Evidence of ongoing support and mentorship • What are the elements you believe are important in a supervisor/student employee relationship? • How do those elements relate to support and mentorship? • What does mentorship and support look like for you? For the student staff member?

  11. The Evaluation Process • Each application is read and scored twice using the Evaluation Rubric on how well it meets the 5 Student Learning Components • The average of the two scores is used for ranking purposes

  12. The Approval Process • All of the rankings are compiled and funding decisions are made based on those rankings • Applications that do not meet the 5 Student Learning Components may not receive funding
