  1. Welcome To THE BELIEVING FAITH OF YESHUA 7-14-12 Shabbat Teaching Notes (from PPT slides) by Frank Guasto Scattered Seed Ministries

  2. Gen 41:1-37 Miketz --- at the end” מִקֵּץ VS 1 Now it happened at the end of two fullyears that Pharaoh had a dream, and behold, he was standing by the Nile. Two years to the day: literally, two years of days, strongly hint of Yom Teruah (Rosh haShanah). This is the only festival in the Land that is celebrated for two days because preparations had to be made before it was certain whether the new moon would be spotted the first day. At the end of a full year of days would be the New Year (Rosh Hashahah) according to the sages reporting. The term is also to indicate that it was exactly two years later to the day since the incident described in (Ge 40:20).

  3. Gen 40:20 On the third day (first fruits)Pharaoh’s birthdayhe prepared a Feast unto all his servants Picture of the wedding banquet (Mt 22) After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. (Hos 6:2) The message of this day is “Wake up!”, and On the heels of Yom Teruah comes Yom Kippur, the day of judgment. Both Egypt and Joseph were about to be judged.

  4. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (Mt 25:13) It is also worthwhile to note that Rosh Hashana carries with it the implication that added to the resurrection it is also the Yom ha Din, the Day of Judgment, the Coronation of the King and the Wedding of the Messiah. Because of Joseph’s awareness and knowledge of the seasons he could watch the moons and even know what his family was doing back home. In the manner established by YHWH the patriarchs learned their lessons according to the patterns in the Torah before it was clearly given

  5. Standing by the Nile: i.e., to worship it. “Hapi” was considered oneof the deities of Egypt, for it was seen as what gave life to the land. The Pharaoh was an Egyptian that worshipped idols like the Nile River, frogs, etc., and his “prophets” were astrologers, magicians, and soothsayers. Gen 41:6-8 Then God gave the Pharaoh a dream: seven fat, healthy cows grazed in the lush meadows of the Nile; then were eaten by seven scrawny, sickly cows that came up from the Nile. This followed by another dream where stalk of grain came up with (an unusual)seven ears.

  6. Then seven poor ears sprouted – and swallowed the seven bountiful ones! And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them. (Gen 41:6) The imagery of the second dream follows that of the first. Instead of cows, we are now looking at the agricultural aspects of the dream. The grain of Egypt, like its cattle depended on the annual Nile flood for irrigation A wind coming from the east into Egypt was a hot, dry wind blowing in from the desert land of the Arabian peninsula. It brought scorching heat, choking dust and drought.

  7. This dream was enough to awaken Pharaoh and leave him troubled. He must have realized that this was no ordinary dream. God got his attention and Pharaoh wanted an answer! Then the chief butler, whose dream had been interpreted two years earlier, remembered Joseph. Now he came penitently before the Pharaoh, acknowledging his previous offense, and made mention of the imprisoned Hebrew who had shown the interpretation of dreams. He was remorseful because he forgot about Joseph after he was released and did not honor Joseph’s request to make mention of him to Pharaoh

  8. This is reminiscent of the account of the chief butler and baker, one forgiven and restored, the other not . Luk 23:39One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Messiah? Save Yourself and us!" Luk 23:40But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? Luk 23:41"And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." Luk 23:42And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!" Luk 23:43And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise."

  9. The Pharaoh summoned, Joseph to provide the answer to the dreams but Joseph would not accept any praise from Pharaoh. He explained that it would be God who would provide the answer…. “do not interpretations belong to God.” (Ge 40:8b) Four Words/things to think about.. Seven…..Famine…..East Wind….. and Locusts The seven-year cycles pointed to in the dream has been a consistent measure of time in the Torah. It is shown that every sevenyears is a sabbatical year (rest); in the book of Danielsevenyear periods are spoken of as weeks of years and in the book of Revelation and other places the number sevenfigures prominently in its makeup.

  10. Seven…..Famine…..East Wind….. and Locusts In chapters 10 and 14 of Exodus, the east wind was summoned by Moses to bring thelocusts that plague Egypt and to part the Red Sea so that the Children of Israel can escape pharaoh's armies. Negatively the east wind has a connection with the locuststhat bring destruction….More about this later. Gen 41:54 and the seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said, then there was famine in all the lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. But God has also brought the east wind of judgment to come against Israel, by the hand of their enemies, because of their idolatrous behavior. Hab 1:9They shall come all forviolence(Chamac)their faces shall sup up [as] the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.

  11. Seven…..Famine…..East Wind….. and Locusts Gen 41:27And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them [are] seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven yearsof famine. Ex 10:13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, YHWH brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all [that] night; [and] when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. (rabah) Neh 13:3 Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law (Torah), that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude. Mixed –Ereb (noun)Arab(verb) Multitude – Rav (many)

  12. Seven…..Famine…..East Wind….. and Locusts Joel 1:4 That which the palmerwormhath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillereaten. These four are the same insect in different stages of development. Palmerworm:(gazam)- A creeping locust without wings ..its root meaning is to devour. Locust:(arbeh) – From the verbal root (ravah) =To become many, a multiltude Cankerworm: (yekeg) - A species of locust with wings ….also devours Caterpiller: (chaciyl) - A species of locust not yet winged ….also devours

  13. Seven…..Famine…..East Wind….. and Locusts Acts 11:28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great famine throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar. Lk 4:25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when greatfamine was throughout all the land; Rev 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. Rev 6:6  And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and [see] thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

  14. Seven…..Famine…..East Wind….. and Locusts In the Hebrew the word for bee - is Devorah, how we would say Deborah. The root of this word is davar, the literal meaning of which is word. To put it another way, physical bees are a picture of the Word. Could the bees ongoing disappearance be, that soon, many people will be unable to find the Word of God? Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send afaminein the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of YHWH:

  15. Gen 41:9 Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day: Confessing my faults: This isthe major theme of Yom Kippur. Gen 41:10"When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, [both] me and the chief baker, Gen 41:11"we each had a dream in one night, he and I. Each of us dreamed according to the interpretation of his [own] dream. Gen 41:12"Now there [was] a young Hebrew man with us there, a servant of the captain of the guard. And we told him, and he interpreted our dreams for us; to each man he interpreted according to his [own] dream. Gen 41:13"And it came to pass, just as he interpreted for us, so it happened. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him." Observation: If Pharaoh’s dream was right after Yom Teruah, would it be unreasonable to think this would fall on the tenth of the month with the chief butler repenting by the last day.

  16. If you will recall in Chapter 40:9-12 that when the chief butler told his dream to Joseph he said that the vine with three branches in his dream budded and brought forth ripe grapes (fruit). Was his motive honorable Joseph’s interpretation was that Pharaoh would restore him and bring him back to his former position. When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he asked Joseph to interpret his dream; Joseph did so but with an entirely different outcome. Acting upon what he saw, rather than what was in his heart, the chief baker showed his lack of faith, generally speaking, by grabbing onto the coattails of another. Was his motive honorable? Joseph, on the other hand, was one who had grown to great faith, and faithfully executed the position of being God’s mouthpiece.

  17. We all show our degree of faith by different levels of mercy, by different levels of humility, by different levels of honesty. As the Shema declares, we are to love YHWH with all of our intellect (so we must learn His word), with all of our emotion (so we must grow through trials), and with all of our abilities (so we must practice). While we are all different, we should all be “overcomers.” If we have none of the “fruits of the Spirit,” are we still “of the faith?” “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith” – (1 John 5:4)

  18. We can get a glimpse of our level of faith through the level of honesty we practice before God: in day-today fulfilling our job obligations, in returning found valuables, or in giving truthful testimony. There is a difference between achieving a level of honesty because we love God, and achieving such because we are trying to earn our salvation (which we cannot accomplish). His name was called Yeshua, because He would save His people from their sins. Salvation is only possible through faith in Yeshua. And this salvation is FROM sin, not IN sin. This salvation makes us overcomers. Joseph prefigured the Messiah that would come; he trusted God’s provision for his salvation.

  19. Faith has many degrees. So do all commandments involving intellect, emotion, or character, have degrees of observance. This is in contrast to commandments relating to tangible matters: a piece of meat is either kosher, or it is not – if it is from an unclean animal, draining its blood cannot make it partly kosher; A tithe is either valid or it is not – one-twentieth cannot be called a partly-valid tithe (since tithe is one-tenth by definition).

  20. Faith is acting out what God asks you to do by believing that He will bring to pass what he has promised. It is not wrong to be civil minded politically or otherwise to contribute to the betterment of society. When we vote, do we vote for the lesser of two evils? However, it should never come at the expense of laying aside Torah principles. Faith is not inactive, nor is it merely a mental attainment to a proposition. FAITH IS OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WORD

  21. God’s word is directive; it encourages us in attaining knowledge that is properly discerned leading us to understanding for making the right choices. The often used phrase of “man has free will” is not a Biblical term and can be found nowhere in Scripture except for “free will offerings” and even they must follow a certain protocol. “Man has a will that is not free”. Man’s will is determined by many factors – seen and unseen; genetic, environmental, and spiritual; but ultimately, God is the first cause of all. Responsibility is not predicated upon free will. That is, we are responsible for our actions, in spite of God’s sovereignty.

  22. God chooses whomsoever He wills, for His own purposes: He does not choose according to man’s works, neither actual nor foreseen. Man does not choose to believe because of his heritage, nor because of his own “free will”, nor because of persuasion by someone else. Yeshua said, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you” – (John 15:16). “But as many as received Him, to them He had given the right to become children of God,even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God” – (John 1:12-13).

  23. Man is proud, and wants to be in the place of God – in control. Man wants to make God in his own image, and put God under his rules. A common response is, “We are not robots”. The Bible does not speak about robots, pro or con. This is a catch word for excusing faithlessness. God says that He hates sinners – “all workers of iniquity” (Psalm 5:5). But do we understand that God creates that which He hates? He creates vessels of dishonor, for the purpose of destroying them. Romans 9:18-23.

  24. He created Satan for the purpose of his being a destroyer. He prepared beforehand for glory” –Yahweh said, “I have created the waster to destroy” – Isaiah 54:16. Yeshua came to Israel, offering salvation. But many could not respond. Mat 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Mat 16:24Then said Yeshua unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. How about you, are you responding daily?
