  3. Promote effective and efficient SAR programs through the continuous improvement of shared search and rescue information across Canada SAR KMS MISSION

  4. The Search and Rescue Knowledge Management System (SAR KMS) is a system of complementary components that: Provide the means for sharing, analyzing, and viewing comprehensive time-sensitive SAR information across the Government(s) of Canada; and Builds the foundation for the transition to an integrated National SAR Information Sharing Network. WHAT IS SAR KMS

SAR KMS aims to achieve three objectives: Support authoritative evidence based policy and program decisions; Promote more effective and efficient planning, response, risk and resource management; and Maintain a coordinated, effective, Canadian search and rescue capability WHAT WE AIM TO ACHIEVE

  6. HOW WE WILL DO IT • Key Objectives hinge on availability and richness of SAR data. Therefore SAR KMS must: • Capture data from as may sources as possible; • Augment incident data with public internet sources; and • Correlate incident data and enable mapping to provide geo-analysis and a common operating picture • NOTE that NO privacy related data collected.

  7. The SAR KMS will: Support planning activities & funding requests; Highlight gaps between reality and goals; Provide benchmarking based on best practices; Support measurement of system performance; Demonstrate results & prudent use of resources; and Assist in communicating to the public BENEFIT TO CASARA

  9. ACTION REQUEST • Request that CASARA contribute data to the SAR KMS at no cost to CASARA members; and • Participate in the SAR KMS program as active users!

  11. FUTURE WORK • Development of SAR Information Library; • Creation of SAR BLOG (Notes from NSS/Prevention/ Response); • Creation of Discussion Board (Best Practices/Lessons Learned); • Development of Public Facing SAR Statistical Report (Weekly, Monthly, Annually)
