    2. What is Living Area? Living room/ Front room Family room Dining room Entry/Foyer Hallways Entertainment rooms Dens/Studies--------decks/ patios

    3. Living Area Usually 1/3 of the house Usually more, but rarely less

    4. Typical Sizes of Front rooms Small 150 square foot Average 250 square foot Large 400 square foot

    5. Size Considerations What is the room going to be used for? How often will it be used? How many people? How many functions are combined in the room? Is living room size in proportion to house?

    6. Location of Living Area Should not be such that a natural traffic pattern will be established thru it to the other parts of the house. Not part of the hallway Set off a little Natural light Not for main entrance Near dinning room—eat then entertain Near deck / patio

    7. Furniture Doors Depends on the room Seating –for how many Lighting Others

    8. Dining rooms Provide a special place for eating Sometimes in the kitchen Sometimes in a “dining room”

    9. Typical Sizes of Dining Rooms Small 120 sq. foot 4 people Medium 12’x15’ 6 to 8 people w/ buffet and china table Large 14’x18’ (larger) Sizes of Dining room depends on the number of people who are going to use the facility

    10. Furniture Table and chairs Buffet—small 2 person table, drawers in front, no wheels China closet(cabinet) Server/Cart

    11. Arrangement of Furniture Depends on layout of room A pleasant outdoor vantage point Orientation to other rooms At least 2’3” should be allowed from centerline to center of chairs around the table—2’ behind the chairs

    12. Location of Dining Room Adjacent to kitchen and living room Sometimes near family room (This provides less confusion)

    13. 2 types of dining rooms Closed- this is sectioned off between rooms Open- allows for overflow into other rooms
