  1. Grade 6 ELACurriculum Reading Writing and Grammar Vocabulary and Spelling

  2. Reading Requirements • Daily Homework: Log 20 minutes of reading daily. (on ELA copybook chart) • Log must be signed every Thursday, checked on Friday. • Various trade books will be used, most of which are located in classroom already. • Motto: If youmisplacea book, you must replace it. • Book reports are scheduled according to time restrictions and commitments.

  3. Grammar and Writing • Classwork will follow ELA archdiocesan guidelines in accord with Core Standards. • Focus will center on coordinating grammar and writing skills with an in-depth analysis of concepts. • Writing assignments will primarily be completed in class time to allow for maximum use of resources. • Assignments will be typed in technology lab, utilizing the 2 GB flashdrive that students have left in Technology Lab.

  4. ELA Homework • Grammar homework will be assigned as needed. It will usually involve the ELA copybook or Grammar Workbook, to eliminate carrying an additional text in backpacks. • STUDY homework is as important as written homework, and should be checked by parents. • Students tend to neglect this aspect of work, but lack of effective and adequate study will generate codes on calendars.

  5. Spelling and Vocabulary • Students will use one book, along with a copybook. • There will be homework on Monday through Thursday, following an 8-day cycle of scheduling. • Grades on report card will reflect Spelling and Vocabulary use in every aspect; in other words, in every area of work. The grade is not just a compilation of test grades.

  6. Reminders • Homework books must be signed every day after viewing your child’s completed work. • Reading Logs must be signed every Thursday. • Calendars must be signed every weekend. • Tests should be signed as directed by teachers. • If a student is going home in a different line at end of day, a written note must be sent to teacher. Written absence notes must be sent to teacher upon return to school after absence. Students will be coded if they return without a written note.
