KEY ISSUES IDENTIFIED RELEVANT TO THIS CONFERENCE • Management of Government Owned Land and Assets • No consistency across government departments on disposal • Current policies favour best price and not best social return. See as a short term gain • Well located, under utilised government buildings are being sold off on the basis of market criteria and not social return again • Current Uprisings are essentially about access to affordable land and displacements displacement of established communities.

  9. Way Forward • Critical success factors in moving forward • Communication • Buy in by stakeholders • Make Land available for sustainable human settlement including inner city. • Alignment of government departments • Funding & funding mechanisms • Integrated development • Policy & process • Remove Bottlenecks & Streamline Beaurocracy

  10. CONCLUSION • Our work will be tested through strategically identified pilot projects • Currently the group is looking at two or three Pilot Projects that will be presented in September at the Sustainable Human Settlement Summit • This will also form a test for Inter Governmental co-operation • This can then fulfil the dream of our Premier of a Western Cape Home for All in the true sense of the word
