About Mrs. Pence I am excited about my new career in teaching! • I am a 2007 graduate of Etowah High School. • I am a 2011 graduate of Jacksonville State University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. • I married Tyler Pence on New Years Eve 2011. • We enjoy spending time outdoors. We like to fish, ride bikes, and swim. • I have three dogs. • I have two Dachshunds named Rosco and Lola. • I have a Yellow Labrador named Lucy.

Welcome to Kindergarten Important Things to Know • Please return all forms as soon as possible. • The lunch form needs to be signed and returned even if you don’t feel that you will qualify. • Lunch prices: $2.00 paid, 40 cents reduced, or free (for those who qualify). • Breakfast prices: 50 cents paid, 30 cents reduced, or free (for those who qualify.)

  4. Lunch Information • Please send $2.00 in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it each day until you receive a letter telling you if you qualify for free or reduced lunches. • You may prepay for your child’s lunch and breakfast. (Information in packet) • The lunchroom will not take prepay money during the first week of school until lunch numbers are entered into the computer. • If your child qualifies for free lunch he/she will also receive free breakfast.

  5. Things to Remember • Please purchase your child’s supplies as soon as possible. • You will also need to pay $15.00 to cover the cost of classroom supplies and a field trip shirt, as well as the $5.00 technology fee. • Please do not allow your child to bring toys or extra items to school unless you receive a note asking for them. • When your child practices his or her name, please be sure that it begins with a capital letter and the others are small letters. (example: Mark not MARK)

  6. Important Information • Your child will bring home a progress report throughout the year. Please review it and help your child with any areas in which he/she is having problems. Sign the report and return it the next day. • Your child needs to know his/her full name, address, and phone number by the end of September. He/she should be able to tie shoes and fasten pants. Please work on these skills at home each day. If you do not have a phone your child must know an emergency contact number. • If your phone number or address changes during the year please let your child’s teacher know so you can be contacted in case of an emergency.

  7. Daily Folder • Your child will bring home a folder each day with his or her homework and conduct sheet in it. • The folder will also serve as a means of communication between you and I. (Any notes to me can be placed in the folder.) • Please remove the daily work and review it with your child. • A conduct sheet will also be in the folder and is to be checked, signed, and put back in the folder. • Please be sure to praise good behavior and discuss ways of improving any behavior problems with your child. • I will put my notes home and any notes that the school sends home in the daily folder.

  8. Discipline Plan Consequences • Verbal warning. • Time on the “Sad Mat”. • Loss of recess time. • Loss of privileges. (Fun activity, playground equipment, etc.) • Parent contact. (Call home, conference, etc.) • Trip to the principal’s office. Rules • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. • Follow directions. • Treat others with respect and kindness.

  9. Discipline Plan Continued Discipline Procedure Rewards Verbal praise. Extra center time. Good note sent home. Stickers. Pencils. If the student has good conduct all week he or she may pick a prize out of the treasure chest.

  10. Communication • You may contact me by writing a note and placing it in your child’s folder. • Email –epence@attalla.k12.al.us • Phone -(256)-538-7266. • Conference- 11:30 (please call the secretary and make an appointment.) • Please feel free to contact me about anything!

  11. Homework Policy • I ask that you review a few words from the sight word list with your child every night. (You may choose to do a few words from the list at a time.) • Please have your child practice saying his or her full name, address, and phone number at home with you. • There will be a weekly homework sheet sent home in the Daily Folder. • It is important to start the habit of doing homework early so when the child gets older he or she will be used to doing homework every night.

  12. Attendance Policy • Please drop students off by 7:55. • After 7:55 he or she will be counted tardy. • If ten tardies accumulate the student will be counted absent. • Each time a student is out an excuse must be sent within three school days. • If you wish to check your child out you must go to the office to do so. • Please refer to the Student Handbook for information about attendance.

  13. Lunch Money/ Extra Money • Please send lunch money each day in a sealed envelope. • Write the child’s name, teacher’s name, and lunch money on the outside of the envelope. • If any other money needs to be sent to school (book fair, snake show, popsicle money, etc.) please send it the same way, but label the purpose. • Breakfast money MUST be placed in an envelope separate from lunch money.

  14. Snacks • Your child may bring a snack from home or purchase one from the office. • Snack needs to consist of an individual wrapped snack and a drink. (Please no soda or cokes.)

  15. Class Parties • We are only allowed to have two class parties per year. These will be at Christmas and Easter. • Information about these parties will be sent home prior to the parties. These parties are for Attalla Elementary students ONLY. Please do not bring siblings.

  16. Field Trips • Parents are encouraged to go on field trips with their children. • You will be asked to help supervise students therefore you are asked not to bring other children or siblings on these trips.

  17. First Few Days of School • You may bring your child to the classroom on Monday. • Tuesday-parents must stop at the gym door and just watch as your child walks to the room. • After Tuesday no parents will be allowed to walk students in. You must drop them off at the gym. • The children go into the gym until the bell rings. They are dismissed by grades to the classroom. • REMEMBER 1/2 days until 8-27-11. PLEASE be on time for pick up. Pick up time is 11:45 the first week of school.

  18. Thank you for attending parent night! If you have any questions see me after the meeting. Please return all forms as soon as possible. If you have not purchased your child’s supplies please do so as soon as possible. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
