  3. Grammar • “E” Day quizzes: Eight parts of speech and some times other grammar concepts taught in class • Grammar Guide, Memorization Lists, Parts of Speech Guide

  4. Literature • Selected stories and poems from the reading textbook • The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (begin in January) • Other selected supplemental texts

  5. Writing • Character Letter • Research Project • Poetry Anthology • Persuasive Essay • Character Sketch

  6. Areas of Assessment • Quizzes • “E” Day quizzes • Homework • Mid-term & Final Exam • Writer’s Notebook • Writing assignments • Selected Class work • Group and Individual Projects

  7. Grading Procedures • I do not accept late work when it comes to nightly 5 point assignments. Writer’s Notebook is the only exception to this policy. It may be turned in the following day for ½ credit. • Major projects are deducted 10% each day they are late. • Extra Credit (not offered in Honors)

  8. Honors • Extension Projects (1 per marking period) • Higher level discussions • More independent work within class and at home • Higher expectations • Different project requirements
