  1. Overview of new features and plans 2013 MPages 4.4 CED presentation notes

  2. MPages framework update • Performance • Standard component improvements • Foundation for flexibility, customization • New standard MPages • Framework changes for Bedrock, all MPages • All MPages in a domain must be upgraded at once

  3. View • New term for a single MPage • Cerner provides standard views • New versions allow insertion of custom components so we can add items as needed without supporting an entire custom page. • MPage 4.3+ allows creation of custom view built from standard components (mix and match with standard and custom components)

  4. ViewPoint • Combines multiple views in 1 TOC entry • Shows individual views as tabs • Consolidate table of contents entries • Works with most 4.3+ standard views and custom views built with Bedrock • Does not work with existing MU custom MPages • No multi-tab ViewPoints in January updates but planned for future

  5. ViewPoint example • Ambulatory ViewPoint in CERT • Contains Ambulatory view as a tab • Will replace the old Ambulatory Patient Summary MPage • Previous content settings are retained, if applicable in the new framework • Additional features added, as shown in other slides • As we work on customization on related topics, we can add more Views to this ViewPoint for quick access to supporting data

  6. Coming to PROD – 01/28/2013

  7. Plans – ongoing in 2013 • Define ViewPoints and Views for specialty positions • Refine existing MPage content • Review clinical event selections • Review look-back ranges • Review needs for custom components • Identify IATE custom MPages or custom MPage features to incorporate in v4.4 custom components

  8. Update legacy MPages • Patient Summary and Chronic Management • Beginning with the 4.4 update, users should begin to use the new component in the Ambulatory and Inpatient views. • Users should be advised that we will be seeking input on further changes to replace the old Chronic Management items in their workflows. • These MPages will remain in PROD for users until functionality is replaced by a new view or custom component for multiple views • Review IATE custom summary features and transfer to 4.4 custom components • NICU Summary • May be replaced by custom view in January. Info to come • New Cerner standard options will be considered for the Discharge Summary, ICU Flowsheet (updated to ICU Summary), Checkout Summary (organizer level)

  9. More standard options The 4.4 MPages include several all new standard pages that we will begin reviewing for potential use. See Cerner reference pages for details. • Ambulatory Organizer • Schedule viewer for physicians (Cerner updating for broader use) • Workflow • Standard ViewPoint for dynamic documentation • Nursing Communication • Standard ViewPoint to replace Nursing Handoff • ICU Summary • Body Systems View • ED Summary • Discharge Readiness • Quick Orders and Charges • Quality Measures • Chronic Condition MPages

  10. Updated Features What users will see in new standard 4.4 MPage components

  11. New Order Entry • Favorites • Default inpatient or Rx settings • PowerPlans

  12. New Order Entry, con’t • Note the context menu to sign/modify orders • Version will have minor layout updates, including changes to Orders for Signature section

  13. Pending Orders Notification • Designed to make it easier to see Orders for Signature • Orders entered in MPage still need details completed in PowerOrders

  14. Documents • New ‘Mine’ checkbox will filter only documents authored by the user

  15. Pregnancy History • New component that Cerner includes on most of its standard summaries • It will be an optional (removable) feature on our custom Ambulatory and Inpatient Summary views

  16. Chart Search • Accessed from icon in MPage header area • Select magnifying glass icon • At a future date, the Chart Search tab will be removed from the TOC and users will access it from MPage summaries only. Note: v4.3 – installed in some non-prod domains will have different format than v4.4 – this is not the version that users will see

  17. Colors • Color themes • Default configured in Bedrock but can be modified by individual users • UNIVMO chosen default = yellow • Bedrock default = gray • Future: more standardized color coding? • Can only be set one component at a time

  18. Layout options • Layout changes are made on same page • Choose ‘Enable Drag and Drop’, move components, then ‘Disable Drag and Drop’ • Disable for page performance • When switching from 2 to 3 columns, user must drag items to empty column

  19. Tips If pop-out menu items “slip” away from the mouse, hold down the shift key to select ‘Clear Preferences’ selection will reset all page components to default

  20. Notes on user-level settings • MPage 4.4 allows users to individually change several features on an MPage These are user-level selections that cannot be saved, retrieved or copied by the Help Desk. Users are responsible for maintaining them. • They can be set/reset on individual components OR there is a “Clear Preferences” option that will revert every setting to default (i.e., there is no way to reset only the layout without reverting the colors and component selection). • There is a warning when the global reset is selected • We anticipate that major code changes or replacement of a custom view will require users to redo their layout settings. This is inconvenient, but as summaries are built for specialty positions, users’ ViewPoints will have components that are more relevant so less rearranging will be necessary.
