  3. ATATURK • Mustafawasborn in Salonika (in Greecenow) in 1881. His fatherwas a customofficer. His fatherdiedwhen he was 5 yearsold. Her motherbroughthimup. Theystayedwith his uncle’sfor a while. Then Mustafa leftSalonikaandenteredthemilitaryschoolandacademy. He became a captainwhen he was 21. Inmilitaryschool his Mathsteacher (Mr. Mustafa) gavehimthe name Kemal.

  4. ATATURK • He was on duty in Istanbulwhen it wasoccupiedafterthe World War I. He decidedtoresistagainsttheoccupyingpowersandwentto Anatolia on 19. May 1919. • It is thestartingdate of TurkishIndependenceWar.

  5. He held the congresses in Anatoliathen he came to Ankara and opened the Turkish Grand NationalAssembly on April 23rd 1920. • It is celebrated as theNationalSovereigntyandChildrenDay

  6. INDEPENDENCE WAR • Aftermanybattles in differentparts of Turkeyagainsttheoccupyingpowers, he leadedthebattle of Great Attack and he savedourcountryfromenemies. • He abolishedSultanateandfoundedtherepublic on 29 Oct in 1923. (VictoryDay)

  7. Moreimportantthanbattles in thewar he He perfomed the social reforms such as, modern education, the change of calender, hours, figures and holiday, recognition, civil rights for womenetc. • He is alsothefounder of modern Turkey

  8. REFORMS • The account of Atatürk's fifteen year Presidency is a saga of dramatic modernization. With indefatigable determination, he created a new political and legal system, abolished the Caliphate and made both government and education secular, gave equal rights to women, changed the alphabet and the attire, and advanced the arts and the sciences, agriculture and industry.
