  1. Hallie Odom, Michelle Dicks, and Angela Bonvissuto Dreams

  2. In Egypt • A butler and a baker are sent to jail by a Pharaoh • They have dreams and they want Joseph to interpret them

  3. The Butler’s Dream • He saw a vine with three branches • It flowered and the flowers turned to grapes • He was holding a cup underneath the grapes and the grapes fell into the cup • “I saw a vine in front of me, and on the vine were three branches. It had barely budded when its blossoms came out and its clusters ripened into grapes.” Gen 40:9-10

  4. Joseph’s interpretation • The Pharaoh would take him out of prison and let him work for him again

  5. The Baker’s Dream • He had three baskets on his head with baked good for the Pharaoh and birds came and ate them. • “I too had a dream. In it I had three wicker baskets on my head. In it were all kinds of bakery products for the Pharaoh, but the birds were pecking at them out of the basket on my head.” Gen 40:16-17

  6. Joseph’s Interpretation • In three days Pharaoh will hang the Baker

  7. Pharaoh’s Dreams • His first dream there are seven fat cows and seven skinny cows that came out of the Nile River. • His second dream is that there are seven ears of grain on a single stalk. Then seven skinny ears of corn came and swallowed them. • The butler tells him how Joseph can interpret dreams and Joseph is summoned to the Pharaoh.

  8. Joseph is summoned… • God used the bad situation for good. • He had Joseph interpret dreams in jail which led to him being let free by the Pharaoh • Joseph helped the Pharaoh interpret his dreams even though the Pharaoh had put him in jail. • We should follow Joseph’s example and do the right thing by helping people even if they have hurt us physically or emotionally.

  9. Joseph’s Interpretation • There will be seven bountiful years followed by seven years of famine.

  10. Action • Pharaoh makes Joseph the second highest person in Egypt and he is in charge of collecting food for the seven years of famine.

  11. Allegorical Sense • Joseph is a Christ-like figure through out the story

  12. Anagogical sense • We must always trust that God will give us the means to get to heaven just as He used Joseph’s bad situation for good.
