  1. Domain Identification for predictive handover among different domains Soohong Daniel Park soohong.park@samsung.com Samsung Electronics. Soohong Daniel Park, Samsung Electronics.

  2. Background • Handover algorithm between different domains • After host signal degrade, and mobile can not contact current attachment point, the mobile node then flood signal try to contact any available attachment points. • Attachment point itself would know the mobile host in the edge of its domain if attachment point keeps adomain verge range information table (e.g., GIS system of Cellular). Attachment point tell the mobile host it maybe among the verge range, the mobile host should begin to find its available attachment points. Soohong Daniel Park, Samsung Electronics.

  3. Proposal • To propose a method for mobile host to know it is moving to a different domain. • 802.11, 802.16, Cellular and so on… • To propose a predictive handover before detaching current domain for seamless connectivity among different domains. Soohong Daniel Park, Samsung Electronics.

  4. Possible Scenario AR AR BS AP AP Scanning 802.16 Domain Beacon or Probe response DID=802.16 MN1 MN1 DID=802.11 may occur vertical handover between WLAN and 802.16 Soohong Daniel Park, Samsung Electronics.

  5. Possible Scenario GGSN AR AP AP Scanning 3GPP Domain Beacon or Probe response DID=Cellular MN1 MN1 DID=802.11 may occur vertical handover between WLAN and 3GPP Soohong Daniel Park, Samsung Electronics.

  6. Open Issues • Needs an administrator’s network design • DID should be assigned on the edge system of each domains. • Ambiguous verge area among them. • Particularly, overlapped domain. • WLAN inside Cellular. • Expanded message for including DID. Cellular WLAN Soohong Daniel Park, Samsung Electronics.

  7. Conclusion • Predictive handover is a essential element to seamless connectivity among different domains. • WIEN is a good place to discuss this issue. Soohong Daniel Park, Samsung Electronics.
