  2. Introduction There have been many advancements in technology through the ages. Throughout this presentation we will be looking at the evolution of the axe in particular.

  3. The Stone Age(1,000,000-3,000 B.C.) • Tools were made of stone and sticks. People began to utilize fire. Increased productivity of the population led to more people being able to live in a given area. Needles were made from bone. Axes were made from rocks attached to sticks.

  4. The Bronze Age(3000-1200 B.C.) • This age marked the discovery of copper and bronze. Copper and copper-based metals were used to make stronger tools. Cuneiform was developed as a form of writing. Maps simplified travel and trade.Stronger axes made jobs easier.

  5. The Iron Age(1200 B.C.-1300 A.D.) • Iron and steel became the primary materials for tools. The alphabet and coins came into general use. Axes were made of iron and had a larger form for tougher jobs.

  6. The Middle Ages(500-1500 A.D.) • There were various upheavals as tribes fought for territory. Inventions such as the magnetic compass and the printing press improved trade and communication. Axes were much larger and were used for jobs such as executions.

  7. The Renaissance(1300-1600 A.D.) • This era resulted in improvements to many aspects of society such as arts and literature. The abacus was created as one of the first calculators. Telescopes made observations possible at a distance. Axes were mostly used for dueling and wood cutting.

  8. The Industrial Revolution(1750-Ongoing) • Workforce changed for more efficient production. Machines were built to handle more jobs. The steam engine play a key role in modern manufacturing methods. Hand weavers are obsolete due to weaving machines. Axes are mostly used by firefighters and lumberjacks.

  9. The Information Age(Present) • Automatic machines are a major part of our society. Computers process information almost instantly. Cars provide speedy, durable transportation. Contractors, lumberjacks and firefighters use axes to cut wood for easy access and transport.
