  2. Background • The meeting was coordinated by US DOT, USGS, and the Census Bureau • FGDC Steering Committee and Coordination Group members were invited • A survey was distributed to invitees to gather information on their transportation data needs • Limiting transportation to roads for now

  3. Goal of Meeting • Determine the collective transportation needs of federal agencies “The meeting goal is to identify Federal needs for roads transportation data and begin developing a high level requirements document. We anticipate this document will serve as the foundation for developing the National Transportation Dataset.”

  4. Actions Resulting from the Meeting • Revive the FGDC Transportation Subcommittee as body for coordinating federal agencies transportation needs • Prepare a straw man federal transportation data requirements document • Involve more federal agencies • Conduct a follow-up survey to determine: • Specific public domain needs • Funding sources for features desired by 7 or fewer agencies
