What is IT? • The theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management and evaluation of processes and resources for learning (Seels & Richey, 1994) • IT (sic) is more than the sum of its parts. It is a systematic way of designing, carrying out, and evaluating the total process of learning and teaching in terms of specific objectives, based on research in human learning and communication, and employing a combination of human and nonhuman resources to bring about more effective instruction (Commission on IT, 1970, p. 21)

  6. What is IT • “Metafield” • No primary focus • Benefits to diversity • Multiple perspectives • Multiple skills • Rich resources • Costs associated with diversity • Direction difficult to discern • Difficult to “rally the troops”

  10. Find our “Niche” in the Mix! • We have a unique perspective -- but what is it? What are we bringing to the symbiotic relationship? • If we serve as a bridge, what is the purpose? • With whom do we align ourselves?
