This update details the current status of the EIP and NASDAT projects as of May 24, 2011. The CDR for EIP is delayed, with a rescheduled date of August 9, 2011. The EIP is nominally ready but needs approximately three months for production. Pre-production activities are ongoing with several units built and tested. NASDAT also has significant progress with multiple components in the final design and assembly stages. Overall progress includes design revisions, assembly, and environmental testing scheduled between June and September 2011.

EIP & NASDAT Status 5/24/2011
Status • CDR Delayed • EIP is nominally ready for CDR, NASDAT requires more time • Rescheduled combined CDR date: 8/9/11 • EIP requires ~3 months for Production • The current gates to EIP Production build: • Functional & Environmental Testing (6/20/11) • Design revision / drawings updated • Schematic/layout level peer review • Separate program-level CDR? (discuss)
Status • EIP Pre-Production (2 units) • All subassemblies tested • 1 EIP built in-house & delivered to assembly vendor for build of 2nd EIP • Receipt of EIP & box testing late this week • Units will be fully functional but non-flight • Need to “steal” one production unit for Qualification test; final flight unit delivery is now 34 units
Status • EIP Errors Found: • Internal cable lengths / clearance issues • Minor PCB layout errors – mirrored/rotated items • Design revisions in process • Production Assembly: 8/18-9/21 (34 units)
Status • NASDAT Pre-Production (1 unit) • Enclosure in hand • All Connectors & COTS PCBs in hand • Cable routing & mechanical plan complete • Custom PCBs in fab & final design stages • Defined MICD with aircraft • Pinouts defined; document in process • Initial fit check with ER-2 completed • Unit Assembly: 6/7-8/2 • Environmental Test: 8/26-9/15
Status • Insert NASDAT box & model images here
Status • NASDAT Interface Card: 12 Layers • Status: In assembly
Status • NASDAT PDU Card: Design 75% • Expected completion date: 5/27/11 • NASDAT Analog Card: • Vendor selected, in UC purchasing system • NASDAT Iridium Power Card: • Design complete, out for bid
Status • Aircraft & Network: • 25 Bulkheads purchased – enough for ER-2, WB-57 & GH • Purchased ethernet cable, connectors, & experiment-side connectors for all EIPs • 5/17/11 – ER-2 Aircraft Installation Meeting • Follow-up meeting in ~July • Pre-Production EIP & ER-2 ground test planned • Little or no changes required to cockpit switch panel or EIP ship-side interface.
