Intro/Definitions (3-4 minutes)-Meryl Video-take out a piece of paper and name 3 things you see marketed towards tourism in the video and 3 things you, yourself would like to do in Australia. -Ask 3 people for 1 answer each. Definitions Eco tourism Adventure Tourism *Purpose of the video is to get to the point that Australia is targeting their Nature, Eco and Adventure tourism more than any other industry there. Hence, it’s importance of eco-adventure tourism. Make this point to the class. Use this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82n1PX1hVEY • Facts-The Nature, Eco and Adventure Tourism sector in the US, including equipment, is estimated at $220 billion per annum or about half the size of tourism as a whole. • 50% is equipment, 1/7 is tours, and rest is adventure attractions • It is proven that most of the tourists in Australia are “definite Eco tourists” taking vacations in natural locations, nature-based activities, and appreciating nature and wanting to learn about it.

Problems/Issues (2-3 minutes)-Tiff Pollution Economic Issues The increasing growth in the number of visitors has caused management companies to spend more on visitor infrastructure, management and education so they have less and less to spend on the actual conservation. Loss of woods, waters, etc. (Potential solution->increased funding by increased govt budget. They do this by demonstrating the economic significance of the nature tourism industry, which is based largely on parks. Or by direct charges or levies charged to visitors and tour operators where they need to treat them like commercial clients. They need to collect info on the size and geographical, competitive and price structure of this sector.) • Light • Air-Fuels from boats and planes • Land-Trash, beach erosion • Architectural-Hotels on the beaches which creates light pollution • Noise Pollution-Tourists, affects animal habitats

  7. (Will be on Prezi)-Adrienne Facts Facts cont. Composting can reduce home owner trash at the curb by 25-40% Leaves, grass and kitchen scrapes represent 30% of the materials going to landfills. Bryce Jordan Recycling has diverted 13 tons from the landfill in 2005. In 2005, Boy and Girl Scouts collected 25 tons of recyclables and raised $1,200 for United Way. • Turning off the faucet can save up to 8 gallon of water per day, which is 240 gallons per month. • Family of 6= 1,440 gallons per month • Switching from incandescent to LED can save up to $94.35 per year.
