Unit in Good Standing Adheres to the purposes and basic policies of Missouri PTA (MOPTA) Remits national and state dues to MOPTA by date required Remits dues to SCPTA by December 1st Has bylaws approved every three years according to the procedures of MOPTA Submits a copy of the unit’s fiscal year-end report to MOPTA by December 1st of each year Submits a copy of the unit’s annual financial review to MOPTA by December 1st of each year Submits a copy of the required IRS tax form to the MOPTA by December 1st of each year Submits the names and addresses of officers to the MOPTA by March 31st of each year

  9. Scholarships The Springfield PTA 2-Year Scholarship Awarded to a student who plans to enroll in an accredited full course of study at a Missouri technical college. This scholarship is rotated annually among the Springfield R-12 high schools. The high school staff’s scholarship committee determines the recipient.  The Springfield PTA 4-Year Scholarship Awarded to a student who plans to enroll in an accredited full course of study at a Missouri 4-year college or university. This scholarship is rotated annually among the Springfield R-12 high schools. The highs school staff’s scholarship committee determines the recipient. The PTA Grace CarrScholarship Awarded to a student who is enrolled or plans to enroll in an accredited full course of study at OTC. This scholarship is rotated annually among the Springfield R-12 high schools. The high school staff’s scholarship committee determines the recipient. 

  10. Scholarships (cont.) The PTA Joan Keiser Scholarship Awarded to a person who plans to enroll in an accredited full course of study in a Missouri liberal arts college or university. This scholarship rotates annually among the Springfield R-12 high schools. Recipient must be a graduating senior, show need for financial assistance and shall be determined by the high school staff’s scholarship committee. The PTA Helen Smith Scholarship Awarded to a person who plans to enroll in an accredited full course of study in teacher education at a Missouri liberal arts college or university. This scholarship is rotated annually among the Springfield R-12 high schools. Recipient must be a graduating senior, show need for financial assistance and be determined by the high school staff’s scholarship committee.  A total of five scholarships for our five Springfield high schools.

  11. Funds McBride Fund The Gertrude McBride Student Fund was established in 1921 and is named for a highly respected educator and PTA leader. The fund assists worthy high school and middle school students in need. The fund is administered through an application process. Only schools whose PTA/PTSA units are in good standing on December 1 shall receive funds. In the past, these funds have been used to purchase caps/gowns, art supplies, eyeglasses, dress shoes to wear to a funeral, clothing, sports participation fees, athletic shoes, etc. CARE Fund The Charlie Nickel CARE (Charlie’s Angels Reward for Excellence) Fund rewards outstanding elementary students behavior, attendance, and/or academic achievement, at the principal’s discretion. The CARE Fund is administered through an application process. Only schools whose PTA units are in good standing on December 1st shall receive funds.

School Crossing Protection The Committee on School Crossing Protection consists of: Committee Chair: SCPTA President, Becky Volz Parent Teacher Association (PTA) SCPTA VP, Allison Lawson and Chair, Mary Christiano PTA Parent Representatives focusing on elementary schools grouped by high school area Director of School Public Safety for the Springfield Public Schools District Traffic Engineer of the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department Greene County Highway Department Greene County Sherriff's Department Springfield City Traffic Engineer Springfield Police Department

  16. School Crossing Protection Committee responsibilities: Developing a uniform school crossing protection program Reviewing school crossing protection requests Recommending action to address school traffic safety problems Establishing priorities on projects Reviewing School Walking Route Maps

School Crossing Protection How PTA units can assist the committee: Review your School Walking Route Map and forward suggestions to PTA member on Committeehttps://www.springfieldmo.gov/2114/School-Safety Provide one parent representative from each of the five high school areas to gather information from units & to attend quarterly committee meetings Promote SGF Yields aka Mr. Walker campaign

  18. School Crossing Protection ON AVERAGE 60 PEDESTRIANS ARE STRUCK BY VEHICLES ON SPRINGFIELD STREETS EACH YEAR!

School Crossing Protection PTA units can HELP: EDUCATE by sharing the print pieces, coloring sheets, infographics and videos are available for download and distribution at https://www.springfieldmo.gov/3529/About-SGF-Yields RAISE AWARENESS by displaying Sidewalk decals, vehicle magnets and stickers, heart shaped crosswalk signage and the Mr. Walker statue installations

  21. PTA Clothing Bank Located on the northeast side of Study Alternative School, 2343 W Olive. Entrance to Clothing Bank is separate from school.

PTA Clothing Bank Any Springfield Public School student, kindergartener through senior in high school, who qualifies for free or reduced lunch can visit The PTA Clothing Bank three times per school year for free gently-used or like-new clothing and during one of those visits students also receive new socks and underwear. The PTA Clothing Bank is provided by PTA members. Springfield Public Schools provides building along with IT, security, utilities & general services. The PTA Clothing Bank is managed by the Springfield Council of PTAs on behalf of the PTA units. No paid staff – just PTA members!

PTA Clothing Bank The PTA Clothing Bank served approx. 2,000 students last school year.The PTA Clothing Bank provided: Collected and provided to students used clothing: 8,001 tops 4,772 bottoms 1,787 coats or jackets Purchased and provided to students new socks & undies: 6,426 pairs of undies 6,453 pairs of socks SCPTA spent $12,817 on The PTA Clothing Bank in 2016-2017.

  25. PTA Clothing Bank Funding: PTA units dues to SCPTA Major Saver fundraiser donates to Clothing Bank for every school that participates PTA units make additional cash donations directed to Clothing Bank Donations by individuals

PTA Clothing Bank PTA Units can keep the Clothing Bank going strong by: Provide name, email and text # of unit's Clothing Bank Chair Arrange for one or more volunteers to work on unit's assigned work day Participate in Major Saver Hold a clothing drive for socks or undies (New packages of 5+) Collect, sort and launder if possible Lost & Found clothing, send to CB via General Services Share our Facebook and Instagram with all members and friends to Like AND Follow

  45. WATCH D.O.G. DADS (Dads of Great Students) What is it? To provide positive role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. It also provides an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying. It can be as easy as greeting the kids “Good Morning” as they are dropped off in the car line. STEM +Families (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) • Engineers, Scientist, Crafters, hobbies, experiments, projects • Ages K – 6th Grade recommended • One career per night, Suggest Math Toolkit as your first event • Volunteers to Run booths – High School Kids, Teachers, STEAM Volunteers (Maker Faire of the Ozarks – The Ozarks SySTEAMic Coalition) • Inexpensive way to gain Family Engagement and FUN!!! • Passport stamp at each table for Door Prize at end!!! Parents included!!!! • FOOD!!! • Mathnasium Grant Entries Due Aug 31st - $1,000 (National PTA site) • SCPTA STEM Chair - OPEN
