  2. Preterite i > y Spelling Change Verbs • Verbs ending in –uir, such as destruir, have a spelling change in the preterite. • The i becomes y in the Ud/él/ella and Uds./ellos/ellas forms.

Preterite i > y Spelling Change Verbs • Other verbs such as leer, creer, oír, and caerse, follow a similar pattern. • In general any –er or –ir verb whose stem ends in a vowel belongs in this group (exception is traer). • These verbs also require an accent mark on the first vowel of the ending (-í, -íste, -ímos, -ísteis)
