Educational Climate Low enrollment in education programs Elimination of NC Teaching Fellows, masters pay, and possible benefits Changing criteria for licensure (Pearson, etc.) Potential changes with entrance criteria ed. majors Hard to fill positions (elementary, bi-lingual programs, EC, math, and science)

  3. 2015 Recruitment Efforts • Recruitment Committee Developed • Initial District Recruitment Plan developed • Recruitment study to investigate best recruitment practices in urban districts • Recruitment Fairs by district (May 14, 2016 also, May/September 2015) • Participation at Recruitment Fair events at colleges

  4. 2015 Recruitment Efforts • Virtual recruitment fair (March 16 and April 5/6) • Early contract options for those enrolled in licensure programs • Process for sponsorship of H1-B Visas • Potential Puerto Rico recruitment trip • Marketing/Communication campaign (Work for WS/FCS)

  5. 2015 Retention Efforts • Pearson Saturday support sessions reading/math • Transition to Teaching (T2T) grant submitted • Re-launch marketing of Bus Stop (Businesses United for Education) Benefits Campaign • On-going Professional Learning Opportunities (CLC, CLASS, etc.) • Teacher Academy (Advanced Teachers)—identified, recognized, and compensation plan in development • Upcoming Community Conversation on recruitment

  6. 2015 Retention Efforts • Teach to Lead Summits • Application for additional grant opportunities to support teacher development/expertise • Mobile HR Teacher focus groups • Visits to other urban districts to learn methods for evaluating school effectiveness-- (i.e.: school engagement indicators-- enrollment, student/parent/community satisfaction, etc.)

  7. Additional Discussions • Careers in Education Exploration Program for High School students (Career fair/shadowing) • Expanded focus on Teacher Cadet and potential local Teaching Fellows program • Additional surveys to identify teacher needs • Differentiated pay opportunities for performance (hard to fill schools/positions) • Math/Science potential sign on bonuses • Increased pay for performance (hard to staff schools)
