  2. KNOW WHO TO ASK …… • Regional Adviser • Regional Vice President • Regional Board Member Go to the Contacts section of the NCFBLA Website! Make sure you turn in your Chapter Information sheet so that we have updated contact information!

  3. CALENDAR From the NC FBLA Website, click on Calendar. It will take you to a link for the calendar document. Here you will find: • Event Deadlines • Dues Deadlines • Competitive Event Registration Deadlines • Project and Chapter Event Deadlines • Competitive Event Dates • Important Adviser and Student Deadlines

  4. RESOURCES Go to the NCFBLA website and click on the Documents section. Here you will find the following resources which you need for competitive events: • NC FBLA Competitive Events Program (formerly State Awards Program) • Dress Code • Format Guide

  5. COMPETITIVE EVENTS PROGRAM All you need to know about Competitions including: • Eligibility Requirements • Event Requirements • Guidelines • Qualifications for State or National Eligibility

  6. DRESS CODE Gives updated standards for Dress Code and Competitive Events. • Student awareness • Disqualification • Judges decisions are final * Note: Students who are not dressed properly at SLC Awards Ceremony will NOT be allowed on stage but will receive their award afterward.

  7. FORMAT GUIDE Format guides for competitive events • Students may be able to use these on production tests • Can be used for Keyboarding, Word Processing and Computer Applications performance competitions.

  8. CALENDAR INFORMATION The 2013-2014 Calendar (located in Documents on the NC FBLA Website shows: • Dues deadlines for Membership • RCE Dates/Deadlines • Project Due Dates/ Deadlines • Event Due Dates/ Deadlines

  9. MEMBERSHIP DEADLINES There are specific deadlines for Membership Dues to be received in the NATIONAL office in order for students to be eligible to compete at competitive events. November 1 - RCE Deadline February 1 - SLC Deadline March 1 - NLC Deadline

  10. REGIONAL COMPETITIVE EVENTS (RCE) Events at RCE are events which require eligibility in order to compete at States. Look these over so you know which events require eligibility. A quick list of those events follows.

REGIONAL COMPETITIVE EVENTS High School Regional Events Accounting I Job Interview Business Calculations Public Speaking I Business Communications Public Speaking II Business Procedures *Word Processing Computer Applications NCBEA Outstanding Future Business Leader Student *Word Processing I and II has been combined!

  12. REGIONAL COMPETITIVE EVENTS Middle School Regional Events • Business Math – Middle Grades • Career Exploration – Middle Grades • FBLA Creed – Middle Grades • Introduction to Business Communication – Middle Grades • Public Speaking – Middle Grades

  13. OTHER EVENTS Start anytime! Projects and Chapter events especially! Deadlines are early!!!!

  14. EVENT PREPARATION CONT'D There are different types of activities required for events. They are: • Objective Tests • Home Site Tests • Projects • Case Studies • Oral Presentations

  15. OBJECTIVE TESTS - Multiple choice tests - Offered online PRIOR to SLC - Require Proctors - Deadlines are often WELL before SLC

  16. HOME SITE TESTS - Performance Tests - Offered online PRIOR to SLC - Require Proctors - Deadlines are often WELL before SLC

  17. PROJECTS - Usually require a lot of time! - Start EARLY!!!!! - May be part of a Chapter Project, Individual or Team (depending on the event)

  18. CASE STUDIES - Part of an event that includes an Oral Presentation - Usually specific topic or a specific task - Specific amount of time in which to prepare. Use the event guidelines to help determine what the case study requires.

  19. ORAL PRESENTATIONS - Consist of pre-prepared speeches or part of a case study that is given on site. Use the event guidelines to determine what the oral presentation requirements are and how to prepare.

  20. SLC REGISTRATION - Online registration - Registration open from January 13 - 27 - Once registration closes - no changes can be made!

  22. SEPTEMBER • Begin Chapter/Individual/Team Projects • Select Individual events for RCE • Continue membership drive

  23. OCTOBER • Continue working on Projects • Students prepare for RCE events • October 20 (send Membership dues for Nov 1 deadline) • Salt Lake NFLC Early Bird Deadline is October 25 • October 20 - send your chapter information sheet to Ms. Thomas

  24. NOVEMBER • Continue working Chapter Projects • RCE registration forms are due Nov 2 • November 22 - 23 is the National Fall Leadership Conference in Salt Lake City • State and National Officer applications due Nov 2

  25. DECEMBER • RCEs in December: • Western Region (Dec. 3) • Southeast Region (Dec. 6) • Eastern Region (Dec. 7) • Northwest Region (Dec. 7) • Triangle East Region (Dec. 7) • Central Region (Dec. 7) • Southwest Region (Dec. 14) • Check deadlines for Chapter Projects

  31. SUMMARY My students don’t place every year and we don’t do a Chapter Project every year – it always depends on the students I have that particular year. However, we are always well prepared so that we will be ABLE to do those things if we work at it and choose to do so. It is really all about being organized ….
