  3. Επίδραση της Ρεφλεξολογίας σε Φυσιολογικούς Δείκτες (ενδεικτικά) The Physiological and Biochemical Outcomes Associated with a Reflexology Treatment: A Systematic Review. Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine Volume 2014, Article ID 502123. In total, 34 physiological or biochemical outcome measures were analysed in the 17 included studies. Significant within reflexology group changes were recorded for 11 outcome measures. These were blood pressure in five studies, heart rate in three studies, cortisol in two studies, salivary amylase, lymphocyte production, heart rate variability (HRV), R-R interval, pulse pressure, cardiacoutput, cardiac index (CI), and blood oxygen level dependant (BOLD) response, in one study each. Foot Reflexology Can Increase Vagal Modulation, Decrease Sympathetic Modulation, and Lower Blood Pressure in Healthy Subjects and Patients With Coronary Artery Disease. Altern Ther Health Med. 2011;17(4):8-14 In conclusion, a higher vagal modulation, lower sympathetic modulation, and lower blood pressure can be observed following 60 minutes of FR in both controls and CAD patients. The effect of reflexology on baroreceptor reflex sensitivity, blood pressure and sinus arrhythmia. Complementary Therapies in Medicine (1997) 5, 80 84 The reflexology (n = 10) and FM groups (n = 10) showed significantly greater reductions in BRS compared to the control group (n = 4). Analysis of the mean differences between groups showed a greater difference in BRS between reflexology or FM and the control group than between reflexology and FM. This study found no significant difference in resting BP after intervention. The frequency of SA after reflexology and FM increased by 43.9% and 34.1% respectively.

  4. Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Palliative Care: A Comparison of Data From Surveys Among Patients and Professionals. Working Group Prevention and Integrative Oncology of the German Cancer Society/ Integrative Cancer Therapies 2016, Vol. 15(1) 10–16 Results. In all, 25 patients and 365 professional members of the DGP completed the survey (9.8% of all members); 40% of the patients, 85% of the physicians, and 99% of the nurses claimed to be interested in CAM. The most important source of information for professionals is education, whereas for patients it is radio, TV, and family and friends. Most patients are interested in biological-based methods, yet professionals prefer mind-body-based methods. Patients more often confirm scientific evidence to be important for CAM than professionals. Conclusions. To improve communication, physicians should be trained in evidence for those CAM methods in which patients are interested.

  5. The Effects of Foot Reflexology on Anxiety and Pain in Patients With Breast and Lung Cancer Oncology Nursing Forum, January/February 2000, Volume 27, Number 1 Findings: Following the foot reflexology intervention, patients with breast and lung cancer experienced a significant decrease in anxiety. One of three pain measures showed that patients with breast cancer experienced a significant decrease in pain. Does reflexology impact on cancer patients’ quality of life? Heather Hodgson Clinical Team Leader, Surgery, Gynaecology and Urology, Stobhill Hospital, Nursing Standard. 14, 31,33-38 Aim: The objective of this study was to determine whether reflexology has an impact on the quality of life of patients in the palliative stage of cancer. Conclusion: This study showed thatreflexology does have an impact on the quality of life of patients in the palliative stage of cancer.

  6. Effects of Foot Reflexology on Fatigue, Sleep and Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis J Korean Acad Nurs Vol.41 No.6, 821-833 Conclusion: This meta-analysis indicates that foot reflexology is a useful nursing intervention to relieve fatigue and to promote sleep. Evaluation of a hospice based reflexology service: a qualitative audit of patient perceptions European Journal of Oncology Nursing, Volume 6, Issue 1, Pages 37–44 34 patients receiving palliative care at a specialist palliative core unit in the north of England who had completed a course of 4–6 sessions of reflexology. They identified relaxation, relief from tension and anxiety, feelings of comfort and improved well-being as beneficial effects of their course of reflexology.

  7. Health-Related Quality-of-Life Outcomes: A Reflexology Trial With Patients With Advanced-Stage Breast Cancer Oncol Nurs Forum. 2012 November ; 39(6): 568–577 Findings:No adverse events were reported. A longitudinal comparison revealed significant improvements in physical functioning for the reflexology group compared to the control group (p= 0.04). Severity of dyspnea was reduced in the reflexology group compared to the control group(p < 0.01) and the LFM group (p = 0.02). Conclusions:Reflexology can be recommended for safety and usefulness in relieving dyspnea and enhancing functional status among women with advanced-stage breast cancer.

  8. SERVICE USER EVALUATION OF THE BENEFITS OF COMPLEMENTARY THERAPY IN HOSPICE CARE BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care 2011;1:206–273 Complementary therapy (CT) is now a key component of care and support in hospice services and can be offered singly or in combination with other interventions, for example, emotional or bereavement support. Service user evaluation is the best measure of effective outcome from care and support programmes. 43% of participants felt that the therapy had offered benefits in addition to having an effect on the problem that they had initially 32% of service users stated that the benefit had lasted for longer than a day. 77% of respondents commented on the benefi ts of therapy themes were increased relaxation (47%), reduced anxiety (44%) and improved sleep (26%). 59% of respondents had reflexology in courses of 4–6 treatments. “It helps because I feel more relaxed; sleeping is improved and my pains are not so bad”
