  2. Animals 1. Squirrel monkey- 24% of squirrel monkeys have been tested positive for Malaria. 2. Giant Armadillo- Giant Armadillos live for 12-15 years. 3.Sloth- A sloth can turn its head 270 degrees and hold it nearly straight up while its body is hanging upside down.

  3. Brazil Photos Brazils most popular sport is Soccer. The Iguassu Falls in Brazil is a very big tourist attraction. This is a statue of Christ the Redeemer. It’s located in Fortaleza, Brazil.

  4. Brazilian authors 1. Jorge Amado- He wrote poems. He wrote Gabriela. 2. Joyce Cavalccante- She wrote novels, short stories, and she was also a journalist. She wrote The Devil Sucking Mango. 3. Joao Guimaraes Rosa- He was a short story writer but he also wrote some novels. One of his stories was The Devil To Pay In The Backlands.

  5. Government The government for Brazil is a democracy. The level of freedom and control has varied depending on the regime in power. Freedom is usually inversely related to the liberalness of the regime. It consists of the executive branch, chief of state, vice president, and president.

  6. Large Cities. 3 large cities are, • Sao Paulo • Rio de Janeiro • Salvador

  7. Culture Brazilian culture is very diverse. An ethnic and cultural mixing occurred in the colonial period between native Americans, Portuguese, and Africans. The core culture of Brazil came from Portuguese culture because of strong colonial ties with the Portuguese empire.

  8. Tourist Attractions Rio de Janeiro is the most visited city in Brazil for foreign tourists. Sao Paulo is the most visited city in Brazil for foreign tourists on business trips. The Amazon Rainforest is also a popular tourist attraction.

  9. History From the 16-19th centuries, Brazil was a colony of Portugal. On September 7th, 1822, the country declared its independence from Portugal and became a constitutional monarchy, the Empire of Brazil. The land now called Brazil, was first discovered by Vicente Yanez Pinzon.

  10. Geography/Topography Brazil is the 5th largest country in the world. The Amazon River system carries more water to the ocean than any other river system in the world. The Brazilian highlands and plateaus average less than 4,000 feet but the highest point in Brazil is Pico de Neblina at 9,888 feet.

  11. Fun facts -Portuguese is the official language. -Brazil is considered a leader in alternative energy. -Aids is expected to slow the population growth in the country.
