Shark Attack Facts • About 70 to 100 shark attacks worldwide per year • 5-15 of them are deaths • Average of 16 attacks a year in the U.S. • The 3 most sharks that attack are the Great White, the Tiger Shark, and the Bull Sharks • More sharks are killed by humans than humans killed by sharks • More people are killed by getting hit in the head by a coconut then killed by a shark

  3. When and Where Sharks Attack • Sharks attack inshore of the sandbar or between sandbar areas • Areas with steep drop-offs • During dusk and dawn

CAUSES OF SHARK ATTACKS A shark usually attacks under these conditions: • If shiny jewelry is worn • If you are splashing around carelessly • If you are wearing bright colors- such as tie dye • If you are bloody or injured(a shark loves his blood =0) • If you get in the middle of a FEEDING FRENZY • Is you are surfing on your stomach in deep waters it looks like a seal: UH OH!!!!! =

  5. How to prevent shark attacks: • Stay in groups since sharks usually attack individuals • don’t wander too far from shore • Avoid being in the water during darknesswhen they’re most active • Don’t allow pets in the water because of their erratic movements
