  3. Classes/Required Credits. Earning credit depends on class grades & attendance. Diploma Requirements: 22 Minimum Credits. English 4 + Social Studies 4 + Mathematics 3 + Science 3 + Physical Education 2+ Health 0.5 World Languages 3 + The Arts (Art / Music) 1 Electives 1.5 Service Learning 2 NMHS offers full 1 credit math classes in ½ the time. Miss 1 NMHS class = miss 2 at MVHS/Thornton. NMHS = 2 times as fast paced. Don’t fall behind!!!!!!!!!

  4. Credits are only ½ the story. You also have to pass several Regents Exams. Regents (65+ except IEP/504). The Regents is also our class final. The Regents requirement is independent of the 22 credit requirement. Regents in English Language Arts Regents in Global History and Regents in US History and Government Regents in Integrated Algebra or Geometry or Algebra 2 & Trigonometry Regents in Living Environment or Earth Science or Chemistry or Physics Regents in Spanish, Italian or French Every Regents is graded on its own. You can pass the Regents and fail the class and vice versa.

Expect Everyday • On Time Check Quiz [Not in seat at work at 2nd bell =0, no warnings] • Homework checked/assigned. • Aim, Objectives to write in Notebook • Other PPT notes (5-10 pages a day). • Mid class/ end of class summaries/cleaning to be rewarded. • Test rules strictly enforced. • Regents in January/ PSAT in October Countdowns.

  7. Expect MVCSD Math Grading Policy • Quizzes 15 points • Notebook 15 points • Homework 20 points • Classwork/Attention 15 points • Tests 35 points

Expect OTCQ Quizzes • OTCQ: “On Time Check Quiz” every day. • Late = not in your seat at work at the bell = 0. • No warnings. • Full credit for writing down 2 or 3 short easy questions under the date for that class with correct answers. • Notebooks may be used to find answers. • OTCQ = up to 15 points of final grade. • OTCQ questions are used for extra credit on tests.

  9. Expect NOTEBOOK Notebook checks with grades on spot basis. Notebook = up to 15 points of final grade. • Up to 3 points for 3 section all math notebook. • Up to 12 points for date, aim, otcq answers and all notes from power point slides. • Notebooks may be used on every test and quiz in Mr. Reidy’s class except for the quarterly, midterm and Final. • Lost notebooks = lost credit. • Power point examples are used as extra credit on tests.

Expect HOMEWORK • Homework = up to 20 points of your grade. • Homework checked at start of class. • All homework must be written in order in the back section of your notebook. • Full credit for completing every problem. • ½ credit for honest attempt at all problems. • All Fronting homework = no credit. • Late homework receives only ¼ credit if completed by close of the week when due.

  13. EXPECT HOMEWORK EVERY DAY • First day = Return Textbook form ASAP + worksheet. • All home work is in your text. Please bring it home and keep it home. • There are electronic copies of the Geometry and Algebra text posted online. • First Extra credit = 10 points on first test to any students who download their text. Prove it by handing me a printed page from a computer with the same number as the day number of your birthday in the month. • For Algebra, Google Glencoe NY Algebra 1, follow the instructions in your Algebra text or go to http://www.glencoe.com/sec/math/algebra/algebra1/algebra1_05/index.php4/ny • For Geometry go to Mariah Carey’s High School website and download the Geometry text. www.harborfieldscsd.net/ or http://www.harborfieldscsd.net/pdf/HS/textbook/Geometry.pdf

Expect ATTENTION • Class Work, Class Participation and Attention = up to 15 points of your grade. • NMHS Rules apply at all times to all teachers and students. • Violations of NMHS rules and write ups for misconduct will be deducted from these points. • ¼ Bonus points will be added for mid class summary, end of day summary, class art work, keeping our class clean etc. Every attempt will be made to share these opportunities. • Student Bonus totals to be posted. Please check your totals for accuracy. Don’t wait too long to point out errors on my part.

  15. Grading summary Recap • OTCQ = up to 15 points of your grade. • Notebook = up to 15 points of your grade. • Homework = up to 20 points of your grade. • Class participation/attention = up to 15 points. So 65 points of you grade is decided outside of your tests!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tests are only worth 35 points!!!!!

  16. Who do you want to be? Student 2 • Always late in getting to seat = 0 points. • Single subject Notebook that is missing ½ of our notes = 7 points. • Homework = tardy, incomplete, out of order, missing ½ = 5 points. • Class behavior & attention negative = 2 points. This student has a 14 without taking a test. This student will fail no matter what they get on tests. Student 1 • Always in seat at bell, starts to write down OTCQ and gets correct answers = 15 points. • Notebook meets all requirements = 15 points. • Homework = on time and meets all requirements = 20 points. • Class participation/attention meets all requirements = 15 points. This student has a 65 without taking a test. This student will pass no matter what they get on tests. NOTE: Regents EXAM may be passed on its own no matter what grade you get in class!!!

  17. Expect • Calculators needed to study at home, not just in class. • Calculators will be loaned in class to students who give me a current NMHS id and use them properly. • Damage or misuse of calculators may lead to denial of lending privilege.

  18. Expect TESTS • Test rules strictly enforced. • Only notebooks and approved non-phone calculators may be used. • Raise your hand for use of the bathroom. • No other questions permitted during a test. • If you believe that the test contains an error, complete the exam as best you can and alert Mr. Reidy after the exam. • DQ = 0 • No warnings will be given. • DQ includes talking, phone use, use of unauthorized materials or violation of any NMHS rules. • Bring sufficient writing supplies, asking around during exam = DQ.
