  4. Verse 1 madhusudanah Destroyer of the demon Madhu madhu honey – that which is sweet and dear to all ahankara ego – that which is dear to all madhusudanah Destroyer of the ahankara - ego Verse 1 synopsis: Krishna prepares to address a distraught Arjuna

  5. Verse 2 Sri Bhagavan (Lord) Said sribhagavanuvaca in this crisis from where this upon you despair has come kutastvakasamalamidamvisamesamupasthitam anarya-justam a-svargyamakirti-karamarjuna Arjuna not the way to heaven does not add to your good name unbecoming of an upright man

  6. Verse 2 In such crisis, from where has this despair come upon you, O Arjuna? It is not at all becoming to an upright man, and does not add to your good name. Nor is it the way to heaven. Verse 2 synopsis: Krishna admonishes Arjuna.

  7. Verse 3 do not yield to unmanliness not this arjuna in you befit klaibyam ma smagamahparthanaitattvayiupapadyate ksudramhrdayadaurbalayamtyaktvauttisthaparantapa weakness of heart lowly give up get up arjuna

  8. Verse 3 Do not yield to unmanliness, O Partha! It does not befit you. Give up this lowly weakness of heart and get up, Arjuna! Verse 3 synopsis: Krishna urges Arjuna to stand up and fight.

  9. Verse 4 Arjuna Said arjunauvaca how I Drona and Krishna Bhishma in this battle kathambhismamahamsankhyedronam ca madhusudana Isubhihpratiyotsyamipujarhavarisudana with arrows will fight against these two who are worthy of worship destroyer of foes (Krishna)

  10. Verse 4 How will I fight against Bhishma and Drona in the battle, O Krishna? These two are worthy of my worship alone. Verse 4 synopsis: Arjuna attempts to explain his reasons to Krishna.

Verse 5 collecting food from others here better teachers indeed world to eat even not kill highly exalted gurunahatva hi mahaanubhavansreyobhoktumbhaiksyamapiihaloke hatvaarthakamantugurunihaevabhunjiyabhoganrudhirapradigdhan security and pleasure teachers kill would experience stained with blood whereas here even enjoyment

  12. Verse 5 It would be better indeed to eat food collected from others here, in this world, than to kill these highly exalted teachers. Whereas, if I kill them, the enjoyments of security and pleasure I would experience in this world, will be stained by blood. Verse 5 synopsis: Arjuna continues to explain his reasons to Krishna.
